» CHAPTER TEN «

"NICK!!!" Lisa screamed. She ran into his arms and started sobbing uncontrollably.

Nick hugged her and patted her hair down. "Shhhh…" he said, his clothes had smudges of dirt on them as well as his face.

"Nick," Lisa sobbed. "Emily's not here….I knew she was going to the bathroom…I tried looking for her afterwards….what if…" Lisa's voice grew high pitched, "What if she never got out of the plane?" Lisa let go of Nick and fell to the ground bawling. They were all at the shelter near by the place the group of survivors had landed. The pilot managed to do a head count. Only 2 were missing.

"Not bad," he said somewhat smirking.

"Not bad??" Nick barked. He grabbed the pilot by his collar. "I swear to god…you better find those 2 other people because they mean the world to me," Nick threatened and was almost ready to punch him.

Howie tried to pull Nick, "Nick…they're already sending out people…calm down."

AJ shoved the pilot aside. "You say that again and you're really gonna get it" he cried almost ready to pounce.

"Emily…please be okay" Lisa said to no one in particular. The four Backstreet Boys and Lisa all held hands praying.

"I love you Emily," Nick whispered. "Brian!!! Please! You can't leave now!! You're not done telling me what a dumb ass I am!!" Nick shouted. He let go of Lisa and starting crying himself. Lisa sat down next to him and cried too. AJ looked like he was on the verge as well. Howie shook his head sadly. Kevin buried his head in his hands.

"Brian…you've been there for me when Dad died…who will be there for me when you're gone?"

"ACK!!! Kevin! Don't say that!! We don't know that Brian and Emily are gone yet!" Lisa cried lunging for Kevin. Kevin just buried his heads in his hands again.

"Nick…" Lisa started. Nick looked at Lisa. "Emily really loved Brian…" she started. Nick took a deep breath. "And when she lost him, she was devastated," Lisa said.

Nick remained silent. "She never lost him," he whispered. Lisa didn't hear him though.

"I want to thank you for making her feel better about herself, you do not know how much she loves you Nick, and if they're gone, I'm glad to know none of them are suffering…at least they're together…but Brian was your best friend wasn't he?" Lisa asked. Nick nodded. "Why did he break up with her?"

"Because…" Nick choked on his words. "He loves her," Tears rolled down Nick's cheeks. Lisa cried with him.

"Thank you Nick, Emily was the best friend I ever had. You truly made her last days her best days. She always smiled when we mentioned your name." Lisa unzipped her backpack and took out two Nintendo games.

"She…." Lisa blubbered, "wanted to know which one you would've preferred,"

Nick gasped. He took both of the games and read the card, "To Nick, love is too weak of an emotion to describe what you have given me. You have truly opened my eyes these last few days. I love you and will cherish you always, Happy Birthday," the card read. Nick felt something else in the envelope. He took out a shiny bright penny. A heart was carved on it. Probably with a knife or a pin. He smiled weakly.

"Brian was the luckiest guy," he muttered and put the penny in his pocket.

"Nick? The plane is coming..." Kevin asked.

"Plane?" Nick shouted. "WHAT PLANE?" he asked.

"The plane that's gonna continue from here and take us to LA" Howie replied.

"What about Emily and Brian??" Lisa cried.

"When we get to LA we'll contact the police," Kevin said.

"WHY CAN'T WE FILE IN A MISSING PERSON'S REPORT NOW!!!" Lisa shrieked.

Nick nodded. "Yeah," he said.

"Listen NIck...this isn't any easier for the rest of us...we can't just file a report in the middle of nowhere...this shelter has one phone and they’ll charge us long distance, plus it'll be better if we did this face to face" Kevin said.

Nick sighed and put his arm around Lisa, "Let's go" he said.
