» CHAPTER TWELVE «

"There he is," Jane Carter whispered to Aaron, her youngest son.

"Peee yeeeewww, Nick you smell like trash!" BJ turned away from Nick's hug.

"Where's Emily?? I have a gift for her!" Angel held up a bouquet of flowers. Nick had called them while he was on the plane to tell them that Emily would be in LA also.

Nick looked at his mom, "You didn't tell them?" he mouthed.

His mom shook her head. "I didn't know how to put it, their favorite auntie and uncle missing?" she asked.

"EMILY AND BRIAN ARE MISSING?" Aaron shrieked.

"Hey BJ!" AJ said when he saw her. The rest of the Backstreet Boys came up to Nick's family with their luggage.

"AJ!" BJ ran into AJ’s arms and sobbed. "Are Brian and Emily going to be okay?"

AJ looked bewildered. He had no idea what to say. Howie took over, "Don't worry BJ, we just went to the police. They're on their way."

Nick nodded. They had gone to a police station as soon as they landed in LA. The police had already sent out people in that area to go searching. So far, there were two boats in the Pacific waters, to look for bodies. Nick prayed that Brian had his life vest on if they landed in the ocean. Also there was one helicopter flying the same route as the plane did to check for any wreckage. In other woods, where Brian and Emily might be.

~~~ I quickly wiped my tears away with the sleeve of my sweater. I tried to straighten up. I walked back to the tent. Brian was hovering over the sticks. He was still wearing the same black wife beater. There was a dirt stain on his khakis. I took a deep breath.
"I found a river nearby here," I told Brian.
Brian looked up surprised. He saw Emily's red blood shot eyes and her messy hair. "A river?" he asked.
I nodded. "Maybe it could be beneficial," I said.
"I'll go check it out," he nodded at me and left. I sighed. "I love you Brian," I whispered.
"I love you Emily," Brian whispered as he walked over the bark and dirt. ~~~
In LA at Nick's Parent's House "How are you honey?" Jane Carter sat down next to Nick who had been gazing at the ceiling for over a couple of minutes now.
"Fine..." Nick sighed.
"The police called," Jane started.
Nick looked up. "And…?" he asked.
"They just wanted to update us…they found the wreckage of the plane…and there were no bodies. And…" Jane choked on her words.
"Mom…it's okay…just say it," Nick looked into his mom's eyes.
"They say there's a slim chance that they're still alive, as of right now, they're working on searching for the…" She took a deep breath, "bodies,"
Nick gulped. He stood up abruptly. "Who the f*ck do they think they are? How do they know that Brian and Emily are dead?" he cried.
"Nick…they said chances were slim,"
"Damnit…I know for sure that they're alive…" Nick cried.
Jane looked at him questioningly, "How?"
"Because…" Nick sobbed. "I didn't say goodbye to either of them…" He ran to his room. His mother sighed. She dabbed her eyes with Kleenex. She picked up a photo on the table. Emily was smiling sweetly and Brian was kissing her cheek. Nick was in the background sticking his tongue out and pretending to gag. It was a beautiful picture.
Nick picked up the phone.
"Hello?" Kevin answered from his hotel room.
"Kev…" Tears rolled down Nick's cheeks.
"Nick? What's wrong?" Kevin asked.
"The police called…" Nick said.
"And…?" Kevin asked.
~~~ Nick's mom picked up the phone. They had two phone lines in their house. "Mrs. Carter? This is officer Grieg, I'm in charge of your case?"

"Yes…?" Jane asked.

"We found two bodies down by the beach…we were wondering if you and perhaps Nick would like to come down here sometime today and identify whether they are the bodies of…" he paused. She could hear papers shuffling, "Brian Littrell and Emily Dunst,"

"Okay…I'll let my son know," Jane dropped the phone and ran upstairs.

~~~ "NICK?? Tell me what happened?" Kevin shouted into the phone. Nick wasn't answering. Nick wiped his tears away.
"And…" Nick started. He paused. His mother stood at the doorway. There were tears in her eyes. Nick already knew what that meant.
"BRIAN!!!" Nick screamed before he collapsed.
"Nick??? What's going on!!!???" Kevin shouted.
"Hello?" Jane frantically shouted into the phone as her son lay on the floor.
"HELLO?" Kevin shouted.
"Kevin… Nick just passed out. The police found two bodies but we don't know if it's them yet," Jane said.
"Omigosh…I'll be right there…I'll tell the rest of the guys too…" Kevin said.
Jane hung up the phone and tried to pick Nick up. It was useless. Her husband wasn't home either…she sank down onto the carpet and tried to wake Nick up.
