» CHAPTER FIVE «

"Hey Emily," Nick said into his cell phone. They were an hour early at the airport.

"Hi" I responded.

"When's your flight?" Nick asked.

"At 8," I responded.

"Hey!!! Our's is at 9:30. Are you at the airport already? Lisa with you?" Nick asked.

"Uh huh…Lisa went to go get snacks at the vending," I replied.

"Where are you?" Nick asked.

"3rd level, international flights, section 29A."

"Hold on…I'll be there,"

"Kay see you," I said and hung up.

"Nick…" Brian woke up from his nap on the chair, "where're you going?" he yawned.

"Emily's here too, I'm going to go visit her," Nick replied putting on his hat to avoid fans.

"Oh…" Brian turned away and sighed.

"Sorry dude…" Nick said before taking off.

"Guess I'm not the only one in love with her," Brian muttered.

"Huh?" AJ woke up from his nap.

"FRACK!!!" I shouted.

Nick laughed and hugged me. Lisa woke up from her nap and smiled. "Hi Lisa," Nick smiled at her. Gosh that smile was so infectious.

Lisa smiled back, "Hey…where's Kevin?"

Nick pretended to be mad. "Oh so it's all about Kevin eh?"

"Yes it is…dammit. Now tell me where is he?" Lisa has a huge crush on Kevin. Even Kevin knows. But none of us take it seriously

"I dunno," Nick shrugged. "He's probably with the rest of the guys…upstairs near the Gift Shop,"

Lisa jumped up. "Later Emily…" She gave me a brief hug and kissed Nick on the cheek. She dashed off. I laughed.

I got up to go to the drinking fountain. Without looking, I sat down in the wrong seat and ended up on Nick's lap. "Hey…" he said laughing.

I blushed and got up, "Whoops," I said.

He pulled me back down, "No…stay like that," He starting laughing. I blushed even redder. But I stayed. I yawned, it was only 5. "Poor baby…here's a bedtime story…" Nick whispered in my ear.

"I want Cinderella… and make it snappy," I said.

Nick propped his chin on my shoulders. I could smell his cologne. I really WAS tired. I laid back and tilted my head sideways to look at Nick. He stared at me. There was no laughing this time, no joking. Nick leaned forward and kissed me. He did it again, this time letting his tongue wander into my mouth. I kissed him back. It felt weird doing a sideways kiss. Nick held me closer and I laid my head back.

"That was wrong," I said, out of breath.

"Why should it be?" Nick whispered, his lips brushing against my neck. I shivered, but I wasn't cold at all, I was warm.

"Nick…" I moaned. "We shouldn't," I started.

"That penny was mine," Nick whispered. I swear…my ears were burning. I was still on his lap and there weren't too many people around.

"Nick…I still have feelings for Brian…" I looked into his eyes this time.

He didn't say anything. He pushed my bangs back and kissed me on my forehead. "I've always liked you Emily. Brian was one lucky guy…this is my chance, but if you really love him, then I won't stop you," Nick kissed me gently on the lips and let me go. I was half-numb and half-cold. I felt weird and shivery. I watched as Nick's well-built body began to disappear from my view.

A few meters away Brian had just come up to escalators. He saw Emily perched on Nick's lap. Nick, his best friend. Frick and Frack. His whole throat closed up as Nick gave Emily a sideways French kiss. He turned back and ran to the bathroom. He splashed his face with cold water and took a deep breath.

"You dumb ass," he cried into the mirror. "You let her go," he cried out loud and sighed. Nick entered the bathroom.

"Hey Bri," Nick said.

Brian looked at Nick and left without saying a word. Nick stared at the door as it swung closed. "Shoot," he muttered and then left himself. "BRIAN!" Nick ran after Brian who was jogging back to the waiting area.

Brian turned around, his voice hoarse "Nick," he began. "You're my best friend, and you knew how much I loved Emily,"

Nick gulped. "But I figured that since you broke up with her…"

Brian sighed, "Enjoy her," he paused. "And a word of advice, don't let her go, she's the best thing that can ever happen to you," Brian sat down and closed his eyes.

Nick gave AJ a desperate look.

"Nick…why did you do that?" AJ asked later as they were boarding the plane.

"I dunno Bone…I've always liked her…and now that she and Bri are over I thought I'd give it a chance," Nick heaved his suitcase into the overhead compartment.

"But you know that Brian still had feelings for her," Howie stated.

Nick took the seat across the isle from Howie. He closed his eyes. "I screwed up big time," he said to himself. ~~~

At the Airport: "This is so f*cked up!!" Lisa cried.

"I'm sorry Miss…these tickets clearly state they are headed for Los Angeles…now you can still make this flight, they don't take off until," the attendant checked her watch, "20 minutes." Lisa and I had just discovered that our tickets had said destination of LA. Lisa gave me a desperate look.

"Might as well…there will still be a taxi waiting for us right?" I smiled at Lisa.

"If there isn't…" She glared at no one in particular. I grabbed her arm and we ran upstairs. ~~~

On the Plane: "Finally!" Lisa realized against the cushioned seat and sighed. I smiled and took out my CD player.

"SH*T!" I cried.

"Emily…." Lisa nudged me, the lady sitting next to me gave me a dirty look. "Emily, what's wrong?" Lisa asked.

"I brought my Millennium CD with me," I stated.

"And why would that be a problem??" Lisa asked.

"Argh…Nick Carter just kissed me, I'm still in love with Brian, and we're on the wrong plane, the last thing I want is Brian singing his way 'back to my heart' " I stopped and made quote signs with my fingers.

"Oooh I love 'back to your heart'!" Lisa grabbed my disc man out of my hands and put it on her ears. I sank back and took a nap. Sometimes Lisa can be so insensitive.
