» CHAPTER TWO «
Julie looked at her watch and back at the terminal from which the Backstreet Boys were to come from. "Hmm.. they should be here soon."
Sure enough, just then the door which led from the plane opened and out came Backstreet management, flight attendants, luggage and finally the Boys themselves.
Nick dropped all of his luggage and pulled Julie into a hug.
"Oh how I've missed you!" he smiled and placed his lips on Julie's.
"I've missed you too!" Julie said pulling away. "But all the kissing can wait for later!" Julie smiled and took Nick's hand. "We should get going."
As Nick and Julie headed for the luggage pick-up Julie waved to Kristin and gave her a thumbs up.
Kristin was talking to AJ at the time. She responded with a smile and gave her a little wave. She then returned her attention to AJ. She pulled AJ into a hug and hugged with all her strength.
"I'm glad you're home.." she whispered into his ear and closed her eyes.
"I'm glad you're here with me." he whispered back. He then pulled away.
"Care to join me at the luggage pick-up?" he gave her a cheeky grin.
"Certainly! The luggage pick-up is the most romantic of places." she smiled and took AJ's hand in hers.
----
"This is mine, and this one, and this one.. finally, this one. I think we're finished now." Nick told Julie as he loaded the last of his luggage onto the cart.
"Are you SURE that's all? I'm sure I sent you away with 42 bags not
41." Julie said sarcastically. She couldn't remember the last time she
had seen so much luggage. Actually, now that she thought of it she could.
In summer 1994, when Julie was 13 and Kristin 14, they were going away
to a church retreat. They were to be away for one week but that didn't
stop Kristin from
taking 23 luggage bags. Julie giggled as she remembered.
"What's so funny?" He asked.
"Oh nothing, just remembering something funny from a loooong time ago." She patted the top of the pile of luggage and smiled. "We're ready to go aren't we?"
He smiled back and pushed the cart over to one of the assistants. "Could you please drop this off at 4768 Marble Lane, Ruskin? Thanks"
The assistant whipped out a notepad, wrote down the address, nodded and headed off in the opposite direction pulling the cart behind him.
"The people here are so nice." He said linking arms with Julie. They walked to the front entrance of the airport.
"Whoa." Julie said in awe.
In front of the airport were over 300 screaming fans. The crowd went hysterical when they saw Nick.
"Um... Nick.. uh... do you think we'll make it out of here alive?" she was completely serious. She couldn't imagine what the fans would do to her once they both stepped outside and made the statement that they were together.
"I'm positive we won't make it out alive" Nick said. He looked around and pointed to the front desk. "See if you can get out of here from a back entrance. Or from the underground parking lot. I'll go say hi to them to show them I'm not a complete jerk."
"Alright, Nick. But make sure you're not attacked. You just got home, I don't think we'd start it off right in a hospital." She kissed Nick gently on the lips. "Are you going to take a taxi?" She looked at Nick who was emptying his pockets.
"No, too risky. Where did you park? I'll find the car." He kept on emptying his pockets He even triple knotted his shoelaces.
"Section A - underground. Number... um.. 134. I drove the mini van thinking we'd take some other people with us."
Nick then emptied the contents of his pockets into Julie's purse. "OH SHOOT! We're supposed to take Kevin home." Nick then checked his pockets for the second time.
"Ok. Then you find Kevin, I'll head down to the van..." she looked at Nick again, confused. "Why are you doing that anyway?"
Nick looked up and blushed. "You must think I'm an idiot now."
Julie shook her head no and looked expectantly at Nick. "Well?"
"Well you see, Whenever I go out into one of those," Nick glanced out to the crowd, "I always lose something. Whether it being part of my clothing, shoes.. anything. They even dig their hands into pockets if they get the chance." he looked back at Julie. "I've lost 16 licenses, 3 packs of gum, half of a shoe-lace, other stuff and pocket lint."
Julie laughed. "So what you're saying is you don't want to lose your pocket lint? I won't question that." She said good-bye and waved to Nick.
Julie turned and headed to the front desk.
The lady smiled and asked, "How may I help you?"
Julie smiled back and replied, "I was looking for an elevator. I can't quite remember which elevator I took to get to here from the parking lot."
"Well I've got a map of the building, give me a second and I'll circle the possible elevators you can take."
Just then a tall man came and talked to the lady beside her.
"Hello miss, I was wondering if you could show me where underground parking is? I'm supposed to find section A number.. 134."
The numbers clicked in Julie's mind and she turned to face the man who had said them.
"Kevin?"
Kevin turned to face her with a puzzled look on his face. "Hi.. do I know you?"
Julie extended her hand and smiled. "I'm Julie Andrews, Nick's girlfriend. We're supposed to give you a ride.. um.. Nick's disappeared into the unknown world that is those fans." Julie pointed out to the large crowd.
"Oh. Hi!" he took her hand and shook it. 'This is Julie?' Kevin asked himself. 'Wow!'. He scanned her body with his eyes and smiled. "Well then, never mind." He said directing his statement to the lady behind the desk. The lady who had originally been attending to Julie returned from the back room and handed her a map. "You'll be sure to find your way down now."
Julie took the map from her and nodded. "Thanks!" Julie turned to Kevin and took out her blue tinted sunglasses. "Are you ready to go?" She said zipping up her purse.
"Uh.. yeah." He smiled again and picked up his carry along. "Lead the way."
As Kevin followed Julie to the car he changed the percentage of Nick's girlfriends' hair colour from 98% and 2% to 97% and 3%. 'He's actually chosen someone with class.' he thought to himself. 'I hope he loves her.' He thought again. 'Because if he doesn't... I will..'
