» CHAPTER ELEVEN «
"Hi," Christian said to an adorable blonde as he was about to open his car door.
"Hi," she said, offering a sexy smile.
"I’m Christian, and you must be Gillette because you’re the best a man can get."
Most women wouldn’t fall for those corny pick-up lines, but Mandi was different. After all, that was how she found Nick. "No, actually I’m Mandi," she said with a smile.
"Okay Mandi, can I take you to lunch?" Christian asked.
"Sure," Mandi said, climbing into Christian’s car.
"I’m sorry," Nick said.
"No, it’s my fault. I should have remembered you have a girlfriend," Mary said.
"Look, that was a mistake. I have feelings for you, you have feelings for me, but I have Mandi and you have Christian. It could never work out," Nick said. As he spoke, every word broke his heart.
Mary didn’t want to believe it, but she knew it was true. She couldn’t leave Christian after three years for some guy she’d known for a few days. But Nick wasn’t just any guy. Mary decided she’d live with it, she was going to have to.
"Well then, friends it is," Mary said, forcing herself to smile. "I’m sorry to cut you short but I gotta go find out Christian’s room number."
"Yeah and Mandi is coming home soon," Nick said. "I’ll see ya later."
"’Bye," Mary called after him.
"Hey, do you wanna go upstairs?" Christian asked.
"Sure, why not?" Mandi said with no hesitation. She figured if Nick wouldn’t give her any, she’d get it from some other guy.
Mandi and Christian were making out on the bed. Christian started feeling guilty, but figured if Mary could fool around on him he could fool around on her.
Mary knocked a few times, but after she got no response she tried the knob. To her surprise it was open. But the surprise waiting for her on the other side of the door was not good. She opened the door and found Christian in bed with Mandi.
"You son of a b*tch! It’s over!" Mary yelled furiously as she slammed the door. Christian wanted to go after her but something told him there was no point.
~ Later In The Evening ~
"Hello?" Mary said, answering her phone abruptly. She was fully prepared to hang up if it was Christian.
"Hi, it’s me," Nick said sadly.
"Nick?" Mary questioned.
"Yeah. Can I talk to you for a minute?"
"Sure," Mary said, lending an ear.
"Mandi broke up with me and she didn’t give me any reason why. All I can think of is that she just didn’t love me anymore," Nick said.
Mary knew she had to tell Nick, and she figured this was the best time. "I think I know why."
"Why?" Nick asked eagerly.
"Well, I dumped Christian today."
"What does that have to do with Mandi?" Nick asked, getting agitated.
"I found him in bed with Mandi," Mary said. Nick was silent. "I’m sorry Nick."
"I’m not. Mary, will you go out with me?" Nick asked.
"Of course, but can I be your girlfriend tomorrow because I’m dead tired."
"Sure," Nick said, laughing as he hung up the phone.
