» CHAPTER FIVE «

"Hi, I’m back. Sorry, that was Christian on the phone," Mary said with the biggest, brightest smile on her face.

"I know, how about we go to your room and watch some movies?" Mandi suggested.

"Well what are you gonna do tonight?" Nick asked, directing his question to Mary.

"Oh, I’m gonna talk on the phone all night with my honey," Mary said.

"Okay well, I’ll talk to you tomorrow then," Nick said.

"Yeah, me too," Mandi said.

"See ya," Mary called.

"Let’s go to the store and get some snacks," Mandi suggested.

"Hi," A.J. said, quite out of breath.

"It took you long enough," the small girl said.

"I’m sorry, the fans took a long time to clear out," A.J. said, kissing the girl’s forehead. "I got you a present."

"What is it?" the girl asked excitedly.

"It’s a Backstreet Boys T-shirt," A.J. answered, pulling the present out of a bag and handing it to the girl.

"Thanks Daddy, you’re the greatest!" the little girl said, giving A.J. a big hug.

"You’re welcome Munchkin."

"Why are you so quiet?" Mandi asked as she walked down the snack food aisle.

"I think it’s the weather," Nick said, pointing to the rain outside.

"Hey look, I found the Cheetos. Did you get a drink yet?" Mandi said.

"Yeah, let’s go," Nick replied with his head down.

"So what’s new?" Rebecca asked.

"Nothing much," Kevin replied.

"Okay, can I ask you a question?"

"Yeah, sure."

"Are you happy?"

"Yes and no. I’m happy with my career, but I wanna get married and have kids. I love kids. Are you happy?" Kevin replied.

"No, I’m not."

"I’m sorry to hear that."

"I’m stuck in a sh*tty job, my parents recently died in a car crash, and all I want is a baby," Rebecca said, pouring her heart out to Kevin.

"You need a man before you can have a baby."

"I don’t believe there are any good men out there, so I’ve been thinking about adoption," Rebecca stated flatly.

"Actually, I’ve considered it myself," Kevin said.

"What do you mean?" Rebecca asked suspiciously.

"I want a child of my own. Just ask Brian, it’s all I’ve been talking about for the past six months. Unfortunately, I haven’t found the right woman yet," Kevin said.

"I wish you the best of luck," Rebecca said.

"Why don’t we go down to the adoption agency together?" Kevin suggested.

"We’ll go tomorrow."

"Hey Mandi, what are you doing tomorrow?" Nick asked her as they sat on the bed of his hotel room.

"I’ve got to go to a modeling shoot. I’ll be gone ‘till about eight o’clock that night," Mandi said sadly.

"Oh, ok," Nick said.

Mary was channel surfing, waiting for her phone to ring and then it did. "Hi Christian," Mary said happily.

"Hey baby," Christian replied. That started off a conversation that lasted until three o’clock a.m.
