» CHAPTER SEVEN: REALIZATIONS «

On the way home that night Tory, Crystal, and Gwen were quiet for the most part. Each of them thinking of their own relationship and how much the Backstreet Boys had come to mean to them.

"Can you believe that we may be famous some day? We got another chance, it's unbelievable!" Tory said.

"Yeah, it's one of the greatest things," Crystal said.

"Hey Gwen, what's wrong? You don't seem happy" Tory said.

"Oh I am. I'm just thinking about Howie. There's just something about him... I can't explain it."

"I know what you mean" Crystal said. "It's something almost... familiar. I can feel that in Nick."

"Yeah, in Brian, too. There's just something in his eyes..." Tory said, trailing off.

"I love him" they said. All of them. In unison. Freaky.

Gwen pulled the car over and said, "Did we all just say what I think we said?"

"Yeah" Tory said.

"We sure did" Crystal added.

Just then Crystal's pager went off. "Oh, I have a voice mail" she mumbled. "I'll check it at your house, Gwen."

When they got there, Gwen had a message on her answering machine. It was Howie.

"Gwen, why did you say good bye? I don't ever want to hear you say it ever again, it hurts too much! I love you, Gwen. Please call back!"

"Guys, come listen to this" Gwen called.

"No listen to mine first" Crystal said handing them the phone. The voice mail was from Nick.

"Baby, I meant what I said when I said that I would never hurt you. You didn't let me finish talking. God, I feel so corny saying this, but I want you to be my girlfriend. Call back."

"Wow. Now mine" Gwen said.

They listened to Howie then said, once again in unison, "Wow."

"Yeah, I know" Gwen said.

That same night Kayla and Kate sat together in their hotel room.

"Well, Kayla, you and AJ are sure getting close" Kate said.

"Whatever" Kayla said.

"Kayla, not every guy is like Tom and your father" Kate said.

"I know. It's just that..." Kayla started.

"You're scared" Kate finished for her. "Scared he'll hurt you if you let him into your life. I don't think he'll be like that."

"Maybe" Kayla said. "How do you know what he's like? You don't even know him!"

"Oh yeah, I've known him for a few hours, but you've known him for a whole day! You should be an expert on him by now!" Kate snapped.

"Shut up! Don't you start with me!" Kayla yelled.

"You're not the only one who has problems! So stop acting like it!" Kate yelled back.

"You haven't got a problem that compares to mine! You never will!" Kayla argued.

"Shut your mouth right now! You don't know about my problems! You never cared enough to ask!" Kate yelled back, almost in tears. She ran out of the room, slamming the door behind her. She had to find Kevin. At least she could talk to him.
