» CHAPTER ONE «

It was a warm and sunny day in the little town of Ruskin. And why shouldn't it be? This was a perfect day in my opinion. School was out for the summer, I was on a small island with my best friend, Nick and both of us was happy.

''Nance?'' Nick spoke interrupting my train of thoughts.

''Huh?'' I replied.

''You know, for once I am truly happy. That hasn't happen in a long time.''

'Of course it hasn't happen in a long time,' I thought. 'Your happiness ended ever since you started dating Cookie.' Cookie was a model, had lots of money just like Nick and she was beautiful, but she lacked two things: a good personality and most importantly brains! That's what confused me, of all the years I've known Nick he never mention about wanting to date a dimwit.

''Nance?'' he spoke interrupting my train of thoughts again. ''What are you thinking about? You're awfully quiet today.''

''Just the usual stuff,'' I said.

''Boys, clothes, money?'' he replied with a laugh.

I was quiet for a moment but I soon spoke up. ''Yeah. Boys, clothes and money'' I replied. What I really was thinking about was why I was feeling bad inside. Something wasn't right.

''Hello?'' Nick said answering his cell phone. After he got through talking I knew why I felt so bad.
