» CHAPTER FIVE «

Howie opened his eyes a crack and rolled over. It was cold. "Damn pugs ran off with my blanket again," he muttered. He opened his eyes completely and was rewarded with the sight of trees hanging over him in the moonlight. "Where am I?" he asked aloud. After a moment, he realized that the light must have caused him to end up here.

"Kev? AJ? Nick? Brian?" he yelled trying to locate the others. "They have to be here," he muttered. "Where ever here is."

When searching the surrounding area proved pointless, Howie took a deep breath and prepared to leave the woods in hope of finding his friends. As he walked into a clearing, he noticed a figure coming toward him, tall and menacing. Howie gulped and jumped back into the safety of the woods.

"D?" came a voice to his left.

"AJ?" Howie whispered back.

"Guys?" this from the direction of the hulking figure.

"Kev!" Howie and AJ exclaimed together.

"You seen Bri or Nick?" Kevin asked when AJ and Howie stepped into the clearing.

"Brian’s back there," AJ pointed a thumb behind the group. "He’s comin’."

"What about Nick?" Kevin demanded worriedly.

"He’s right here, Kevin," Brian announced as he entered the clearing followed by Nick. "Found him out cold."

"Okay, great, so we’re all alive," AJ said. "What now?"

"First we find out where we are," Brian said. "Where would that be, Howard?" They all turned to look at Howie.

"I...don’t know?" he said, glancing at the unfamiliar surroundings. "I really...don’t know."

"Well, now that that’s cleared up," Nick said sarcastically. "Why don’t we find somewhere to sleep?"

"Someplace warm," Brian added, rubbing his arms.

"I don’t think we’re in Florida," AJ said as his breath fogged his glasses.

"Where is ‘Florida’?"

The group spun around, ready to face whatever adversary was present.
