» CHAPTER THREE «

Minutes after the accident they arrived at the hospital. The large doors of the emergency swung open as the stretcher carrying Michelle rushed through them, running beside the stretcher was Kevin who was holding her hand all through it all.

"I'm sorry Mr. Richardson but I can't let you in here now. Hospital staff only. Sorry" the doctor explained.

The doors shut behind them and Kevin was staring through the glass as he watched the doctors try to revive his love.

"This can't be happening" Kevin said. "I promised her this wouldn't happen. I lied to her. She's never going to forgive me. Never."

"Kevin, sweetheart. Don't do this to yourself. You didn't know it was going to happen. I know she's going to forgive you. You two have this love and this bond that no one can break" his mother said to her baby boy softly.

"Mom, I wish you were right. But look what I've done to her."

"Kevin, you didn't do nothing. None of this is your fault."

"Yeah Kevin, mom's right. The horse just got freaked by something, it's not your fault" Tim said.

"Kevin, why don't you come and sit in the waiting room? You don't need to be here to see all of this. Come on." Kevin's mom reached out for his hand, and he took it. They all went into the waiting room and waited. To Kevin it seemed like a lifetime.

Twenty minutes later a doctor appeared in front of them at the waiting room. "Is there a Mr. Richardson in here?" he asked.

"Yeah, that's me." Kevin stood up and shook his hand.

"Hi, Mr. Richardson. My name is Dr. Mark Anderson, and I am taking care of Michelle" he informed everyone.

"How is she? Is she ok?" Kevin asked inquisitively.

"She's ok. But. It was really good that she was wearing a helmet. Her head is fine no head trauma at all. But it's like she's in a coma, she's not responding to sound or touch. That's the weird thing, for someone to be in a coma, you have to have head-trama and she doesn't."

Tim stood up. "Will she wake up?"

"It's hard to tell. She took quite a fall. She has an extended amount of bruises to her back, she has a broken arm" Dr. Anderson reported.

"Is she paralyzed?" Kevin asked.

"No. There are no signs of spinal chord injury at all, that is the good news."

"Thank god." Kevin took a sigh of relief.

"Mr. Richardson, we have some other news on your wife."

"She's not my wife. She's my girlfriend."

"Oh ok. Well I don't know how this news will affect you then. We took some blood tests, and they came back. Everything internally is ok, but something else came up on the tests."

"What? What's wrong with her?" Horror filled Kevin's eyes.

"I don't know how to say this. But your girlfriend is 2 weeks pregnant."
