Anyway, my sister and I got there pretty early. About 5:45 we arrived and it didnt take pretty long to get inside. People were screaming their heads off. Once we did get inside, my sister met up with one of her friends who she hadn't seen in years. But this was my first concert, so I kept on begging her to go so we could get good seats.
We had awesome seats. It had to be 30 feet from the stage. The opening acts were The Vandals and Cake. The Vandals played first. When the lights went out, Warren (the singer) was like "Wow is that for us." Their set was awesome. At one point, Adrian came out and played a song with them. After the song, he signed autographs. But of course i didint go over to him and ask. All in all, their set made me go out and get their CD.
Cake was next. People didnt seem too excited when they came on. Most of the people around us were counting how many times his one girl got pulled out of the pit for sufing. After about 9 I just decided to quit. I think Cake did a good job. Although the only songs I knew were The Distance and I Will Survive. I have their CD, Fashion Nugget, also.
Their was a long wait for No Doubts set. They were taping wires and uncovering orange things. (I still don't know what they were.) Finally after about 30 minutes, the lights went out and the people went crazy. They started playing Tragic Kingdom. This is the setlist of the night:
At the beginning of Sunday Morning. The part where Gwen goes, "Me, me me me me" Well, Tom kept on hitting the wrong notes on purpose to screw Gwen up. So she was like "Stop." And she gave him a shove. Then she asked if it was New Orleeeeeans (pronounced like spelled) or if it was New Orleans. (Listen to the locals and you'll know how to say the last one) And of course everybody was like 'New Orleans." Then they went into the song. When it came time to introduce the rest of the band. She walked over to Tony, grabbed him in a head lock and dragged him to the front of the stage. Then Gwen stood like 20 feet in front Tom was like "Come here," with her finger. She grabbed him by the tie and pulled him to the front of the stage. She did teh usual with Gabe and Steve. Danced with Steve and got a ride on Gabes back. Tom must have had on a bindo too, becasue when Gwen asked what the dot on his forehead was, he said it was just like hers. Then she went up to Adrian and she went "Adrian, you put your pants back on. Adrian was playing naked, but the cops must have came. Believe me, you don't wanna see that." The the whole "You came in with the breeze thing." Unfortunaly, i was on the side where we didin't sing loud enough.
Then there was the break. A couple of people arond us left. Then they came back when they heard the band come on again. They started the encore with "Heartbreaker." Then they played Spiderwebs. Gwen was like "This next part doesn't work without you." So everybody got up and just did whatever. It really was a good stress relief. Considering I had Student Council Elections the next week. (Personal note, i ran for S.C. Secretary, but lost. But I won Homeroom rep. anyway. That was last year. Now I am the 8th grade Secretary for 98-99!!) I was really sad when the concert ended. I had had the tickets for a month and all of a sudden, in 3 hours it was over. FOr a month, i had to control my temper (I have a very bad temper).
My mom had just bought a new car about two months before. That night we realized it could handle big bumps really easily. I dont know if this was a concidence, but a Bush concert from Memphis was playing on the radio. After we pulled away, I came up with the idea of stopping, and waiting for tem by their busses. But it was too late.
No Doubt was my first concert, and you can only have one first. But i am so glad that i can say No Doubt was mine.
