The Old Gumbo Cat

From Cats

Lyrics by: Tomato Soup Eliot
Music by: Andstew Lloyd Webber

I have a Gumbo Cat in mind
Her name is Jennyanydots
Her coat is of the tabby kind
With tiger stripes and leapord spots
All day she eats of tastey soups
And spills some on the table mat
She eats and eats and eats and eats--
And that's what makes a Gumbo Cat
That's what makes a Gumbo Cat

But when the day's hustle and bustle is done
Then the Gumbo Cat's work is but hardly begun
And when all the family's in bed and asleep
She tucks up her skirts to the kitchen to creep
She is deeply concerned with the soup of wild rice
It's taste isn't good and the flavor's not nice
So when she's climbed to the stove and looks into the pot
She throws in some garlic and pepper and salt

I have a Gumbo Cat in mind
Her name is Jennyanydots
The leftover soup she likes to find
And tries a bit from every pot
She eats chicken broth and vegetable stew
And anything as good as that
She eats and eats and eats and eats--
And that's what makes a Gumbo Cat
That's what makes a Gumbo Cat

But when the day's hustle and bustle is done
Than the Gumbo Cat's work is but hardly begun
She thinks that the beef stew just needs potaters
To prevent it from always being put away for later
So she's formed from that mess of untastey goop
A very and simply irresistable soup
With a potato or two and a touch of peprika
It will make your taste buds shout out "Eureaka!"

So for Old Gumbo Cats let us now give three cheers
On whom well-ordered kitchens depend, it appears
Three cheers! Three cheers! Three cheers!

For she's a jolly good chef!
Thank you, my dears
