Venue:                 Sunshine Coast Arts Centre, Sechelt. B.C.

AGE LIMITS ARE: Pre Grade 1 maximum age 8, Grade 1 maximum age 9, Grade 2 maximum age 10, Grade 3 maximum age 11. For those not included in these age limits, enter the first year in the Older Beginner Classes.

Solo selections shall be chosen from the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts Official Selection List, except where indicated. The list can be viewed at http://www.oocities.org/sunshinecoastfestival, or your local library.  You can also contact your discipline chair, the president or the vice president.  Participants wishing to substitute pieces not found on the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts Official Selection List must obtain documented approval from either The Royal Conservatory of Music, Conservatory Canada, The Associated Board or The Victoria Conservatory of Music.  Attach this documentation to your entry form.

Folk, sacred and collaborative classes are own choice.  Selections must meet the accepted standard for suitability of style and level of difficulty.

Material from method books may be used in Pre Grade One classes only.  

Remember that teachers are responsible for entering selections in the correct class.

Repeat signs should not be observed with the exception of D.C..

SIMPLIFIED ARRANGEMENTS OF STANDARD EDITIONS will be allowed in the Popular and Sacred Classes only.

MEMORIZATION is desirable but not mandatory.  Competitors should be aware that an adjudicator's decision may be influenced by memorization.

Piano Classes

20th and 21st Century -  Not Canadian or Bartok

Bartok - state Volume and Number please

Duets
- I - Enter at the grade level of the more advanced student
- II - Parent and Child - entry is at the child's grade level

Own Choice - any category except modern/popular. Must be chosen from the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts Official Selection List.

Performer's Choice - Modern/Popular - Jazz, Boogie, Rock, Movie Themes, Television Themes, Broadway musicals etc.

Composition - Enter at the appropriate grade level.  Please provide a score for the adjudicator.               

Jazz Improvisation - Adjudication will be based on creativity.

Sight Reading - adjudicator prescribed

Repertoire Class - Own choice, 3 selections only, which must be at the same grade level, from 3 different periods to include Baroque and Classical. Consideration will be given to programming in the assessments.  For this class only, due to time constraints, a Sonata or Suite need not be performed in it's entirety at the Grade 10 or ARCT level. Participants should perform the 3 selections with normal breaks between the pieces as in a concert and should not wait between the selections for the adjudicator to write remarks. Performance in this class is considered as one festival entry.

Chamber Music -  10 minutes, maximum - for piano and one or more other instruments.
No grade level or age restrictions.

Piano Collaboration - (Accompanying) - 10 minutes, maximum.  Pianist only to be adjudicated.  The chosen piece may be entered in this class only during the festival.  The festival is not responsible for providing the performer to be accompanied.
