Please note the grade you are working on if you wish to be eligible as a
Provincial Festival candidate.
Pre Grade two classes are not syllabus directed. Students who are grade
two and up must either choose selections from the current syllabi or enter
a piece in the “Performer’s Choice” category or “Sacred” category.
Selections must come from the following syllabi: (Where there is a conflict
of grade level, the RCM Syllabus prevails).
(RCM) The Royal Conservatory of Music
(CC) Conservatory Canada
(AB) Associated Board
(VCM)Victoria Conservatory of Music
Repeat signs should not be observed with the exception of D.C.. Include source
of selection following the title on the entry form, using the appropriate
abbreviation. Remember that teachers are responsible for entering selections
in the correct class.
MEMORIZATION is desirable but not mandatory. Competitors should
be aware that an adjudicator's decision may be influenced by memorization.
Ensembles need not be memorized.
Performer's Choice: Pre Grade 2 – any pieces that are not Baroque,
Classical or Sacred; (i.e. Folk, Popular, Jazz, etc…)
Performer's Choice: Grade 2 and up – any pieces that are Folk, Popular,
Jazz, etc… or
Pieces not found in the syllabi; (i.e. non-syllabi Baroque, Classical, Romantic,
20th –21st Century pieces)
Duets
- I - Enter at the grade level of the moree advanced student
- II - Parent and Child - entry is at the child's grade level
