Chapter 10

Elizabeth lay on her bed with her eyes tightly shut. Max had been missing for a

week now, no sign of him. She wondered where he was and if he was O.K. She did

love him you know. How could the boy that she was so madly in love with be her

brother? It didn't seem possible. She didn't hear the click of her balcony doors

opening and someone coming inside until she felt warm fingers brush over her

forehead. She jumped up and off the bed in surprise and turned toward her

uninvited guest.

"Max?"
She breathed a sigh of relief as she looked into his face. She had thought it was Micheal.

"Yeah it's me,"
he said looking everywhere but at her.

"Are you O.K?"

Just for a second she had no idea what he was talking about then it came to her. He was asking about the accident. She looked down at her stomach and said,

"I'm still a little tender but yeah, I'm O.K."

"I'm glad,"
he whispered and stepped forward to grab her hand.

She moved away from his touch involluntarily. She couldn't touch him when she

was thinking these thoughts and he was her brother in law, that was crazy and she

needed serious mental help if she thought for even a second after he found out the

beautiful SunGoddess who went by the name Isabel was his. He’d probably forget

who she was. She looked up then and saw his sad, drawn face.

"Your afraid of me."
------------------------------------

She looked stunned at first then started to try and tell him otherwise. He wasn't hearing it.

"You think I'm a freak because of what I did out there the other day don't you?"
----------------------------------

She tried to tell him that it wasn't that. That she had seen Micheal do that

very thing before but could she tell him their secret? Should she tell him? She didn't

know but she did know one thing. She wasn't letting Max run away again and

maybe this time stay gone. She was gonna do whatever it took to keep him here.

"Max."
He wasn't listening but going on and on about how he didn't wanna be this way and how he didn't know how he got it or how to control it all the while inching closer and closer to the balcony doors. He was about to run again.

"Stop Max,"
she said and raised her hand to touch his shoulder gingerly.

"Sit down, I have some stuff to tell you."
