Chapter 12

He hung his arm out the window and stared at the stars whizzing by through

her dad’s trucks window. The night was warm and they’d dressed in light clothing

to make their trip into the desert. They jumped from the car and made their way

toward a huge outcropping of rocks. He didn’t know why they were coming here,

she wouldn’t tell him. He felt a hot tremor run through his body as he neared the

cave, he felt safe here, powerful even.

He looked over at Liz and unconsciously licked his lips as he watched her. A

strand of dark ebony hair flew across her face and she gracefully swiped it away. He

watched her elegant walk and felt suddenly and violently aroused. He tore his eyes

away from her as they entered the small niche in the side of the rocks. It was kind of

funny because the way it was situated you couldn’t see it from the street and would

propably never know it was there unless someone showed you it was there. He had a

feeling that that was planned.

Liz turned toward him with an excited look that said “Watch this!” She

turned away from him and and pressed her hand to a certain spot in the formation.

It took a moment but he began to hear grumblings from the ground below. He

grabbed Liz, since when did Roswell have earthquakes, She turned toward him and

gently removed his hands as a huge rock moved to reveal a dark corridor.

“Come down here”
She said and grabbed his hand to pull him behind her.

He was reluctant. The only thing the dark offered was lies and comforting

lies, he hadn’t run for his life from New York to encounter more of them but she

was so adamant. He finally relented. They walked into a huge open room and he felt

like the wind was knocked from him. There was a gigantic tubular machine in the

center of the room.

He didn’t know why but he had a feeling that there wasn’t a “made in the USA” printed anywhere on it.

“I found this when I was little.”

“I was having dreams about the desert and the huge machine inside it. It’s called a Granolith and I’m still not sure what it’s used for.”
She said as she watched his disbelieving perusal of the machine.

She decided she was going to tell him her thoughts on what it was used for.

Micheal hadn’t wanted to hear it, he’d just waved her thoughts to the side just like

always but she knew Max wouldn’t do that.

“I think it might have something to do with our home planet, at least I think it does.”

He didn’t acknowledge her comment but had heard it loud and clear and

took a deep breath as he thought it over in the sweltering room.
-----------------------------------------

Liz looked at his profile and felt her mouth go dry, what the hell was this?

She’d been here lot’s of times with Micheal and this had never happened, not once.

Wasn’t he her predestined mate, some great love from a pastlife? She bought her

eyes back into focus to find Max looking back at her. He took a step forward and

she a step back until she hit the stonewall. It didn’t seem like such a good idea to be

alone with him in here anymore.

He stepped toward her with a smile on his face and trapped her between

himself and the wall. She couldn’t read the look in those eyes and it both excited and

terrified her. His gaze dropped from her face to her breast and she felt her cheeks

flame. They rose back up and and stopped at her lips. He ran his thumb over her

top lip and she gasped lowly.

“I don’t know what it is about this place”
he commented as if he were watching his movements from afar.

“But I feel like if I don’t touch you I’ll die.”

Before Liz could say anything his lips descended on hers and all her prior

thoughts disappeared.
