Okay, you KNEW this was coming...

You actually slammed THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS, but think Renny Harlin's DRIVEN was actually a capable movie?!? C'mon, Shaun, you're losing your touch here man. (The ONLY pro for DRIVEN was Estella Warren, but since you're not into blondes and she does nothing for you, what the hell, right? lol)

Okay, first of all, I didn't slam The Slow and The Stupifying, I gave it a
C+, which technically is an above average grade. But it was just an above
average movie. Driven wasn't Citizen Kane, but it wasn't THAT bad.

Okay, I guess I can now forgive you for previously leaving out Michael Gough. lol
I can't believe you hate NBC. It's a great, imaginative film that really captures the spirit of Tim Burton filmmaking, possibly moreso than any other he's directed (well, maybe with the exception of Sleepy Hollow).

Sorry, Shaun, you had to know I was gonna roast you on this one!

First off, in your review of PLANET OF THE APES -- no mention of Estella Warren. What kind of man...or lack...are you????? C'MON, MAN!!!!! She's f---ing GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!

Second, in your review of SLEEPY HOLLOW (and for that matter, in your review of BATMAN), you failed to mention Michael Gough (a supporting role, yes, but certainly as notable as Ian McDiarmid). Not to mention that single, blind eye.....brrr.

Okay, last but CERTAINLY not least.......

NO REVIEW OF BEETLEJUICE OR NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS?!?!?!?

D'OH!

Later,
B

"Yes, master. I expected a good fonging was on the way."  Estella Warren is gorgeous, but blonde. Sorry, but blondes just don't do it for me. Never have. I don't know why, but they don't. I don't really even think of her. (And apparently Mark Wahlberg didn't either, or he would have stayed.)

Oops. You're right. Please insert this into my review:

Michael Gough is worth mentioning as one of two men (Commisoner Gordon being the other) to appear in all four Batflicks. His wry sarcasim and grounded sense of humor as Alfred lent a genuine human touch to the cold black and grey world of the Dark Knight, and kept Batman from becoming Batfanatic. Ever present with constant reminders of who he was and why he was doing this, Alfred prevented Wayne from becoming totally consumed with the job.

There, is that better? As far as BEETLEJUICE and NBC go, I have limited time and space to do these reviews (where's a TARDIS when you need one?) and tried to pick the highlights of his career. And I'm also limiting myself to six films per Director's Series. I very easily could have done MARS ATTACKS!, but thought the others were better choices. (And did not have access to a DVD copy of BEETLEJUICE either. NBC is technically brillant, but I hate the movie, so that would have set you off even more.)

I have to disagree, the best line from JP 1 is: Malcom "Yeah, but if the 'Pirates of the Carribbean' breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists"

- J

"Oh yeah, THAT line. Well, it was just so obviously the best line from the movie, I didn't think all of you would still respect me if I went for THAT line. I mean come on, give me a little credit here. Glenn, do you think they bought it?"

I think you were a bit unduly harsh on both the Mummy and The Mummy Returns. Both were a harkening back to the days of Saturday matinees and serial cliffhangers, much like Star Wars is to the classic Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon serials. While I agree that they borrow some ideas from other films, I don't really consider them "rip-offs" since ILM was essentially "ripping-off" their own films.

I agree, both are Saturday afternoon popcorn movies, but really compliment each other well. RETURNS expands on the first film as a worthy successor, especially where they weren't sure there would be a second film when the first one debuted. And I personally am eagerly anticipating THE SCORPION KING (a spin-off, by the way, not a true prequel).

Anyway, just wanted to add my two-cents worth.

Hey... I saw your comments regarding his review of chick flicks in general, and I have to tell you that I enjoy his reviews, even respect them. Not that I see alot of chick flicks, but I have to say that if S says they suck, they usually do.

-Jared.

In my defense, Carrie, THE WEDDING PLANNER deserved to get slammed. Also, if you look at my track record on "chick flicks" You'll find that BRING IT ON, BOUNCE, CHARLIE'S ANGELS, CHOCOLAT, DIRTY DANCING, DUETS, MISS CONGENIALITY and THE VIRGIN SUICIDES (all considered chick flicks) all garnered a B- or better grade.  While I admit that I am a guy, and therefore predisposed to review more "manly" titles, I do try to be fair to everybody. THE WEDDING PLANNER was enjoyable, but absolutely predictable, and I honestly expected more out of Matthew McConnahey. Sorry, but that's the way I see it.

- Shaun

I've never seen Manhunter. Silence of the Lambs was a decent movie. However, I must disagree with you about Hannibal. It IS a horror movie. It's only one step above a Freddy Krueger flick! Remember how Fred would deliver a cheesy line of dialogue just before or right after he'd murder someone?

I also felt that Anthony Hopkins played the role as if he thought he was James Bond with a insatiable appetite for human flesh.  You're right, the ending was a shocker. It was a very over-the-top ending. It was something I'd expect to see in a Hellraiser movie. Feeding the brains to the little boy on the plane was also ridiculous.  It's as if they are trying to set up a sequel, SON OF HANNIBAL.

Ridley Scott can chalk this one up with G.I. Jane as far as I'm concerned. Gladiator was an awesome movie! It's like James Cameron following Titanic up with a horror flick.

I saw Hopkins say that he's all ready to do another one. I think I'll pass on it if they do.

my two cents,

- Steve

Okay, you are such a guy. All of the "guy" movies received good ratings, and then you kill The Wedding Planner. I thought that it was a good movie that at least deserved a B rating. Maybe you need to get more in touch with you feminine side!

Hey...

Thought I'd tell you that I thought your comments onthe Kennedy gentlemen was dead on... not only werethey convincing, they looked just like them (If youask for my ever so humble opinion). But not onlythat, Jackie looked just like her as well. I thought the movie was very good, and to the point, however dry a presentation, as you stated.

Your humble movie fanatic,

- Jared

Shaun,

"Chocolat" a GREAT movie? Uh, no. Not a bad movie (which means good). A great movie, in my opinion, is a movie that either lives up to my expectations or a movie that comes out of nowhere (meaning that one has not heard much about it or even seen the trailer) and takes you by surprise. With that being said, I rarely see that many great movies each year. Not to say that "Chocalat" didn't deserve the 5 nominations. With what there is to choose from even the Oscar nominators don't have much choice.

We saw "Saving Silverman" in the theater. I could have waited for video.  I think we were just bored that night and were looking for something to do.

For the most part, I agree with you about "The Mexican." I just wish that Brad and Julia would have had more screen time together. I felt like I was suckered in on that aspect.

Haven't seen "Proof of Life" yet. I'll be honest I wasn't very interested in seeing it for a couple of reasons but now I might have to reconsider.

Shaun,

Regarding your Director's Series, very well done. I'm a big fan of Kevin Smith.

Thank You.

- Leigh

Shaun,

I am very disappointed in you for not mentioning the granddaddy of all directors.... while I appreciate your director focus.... you forgot HIM... Francis Ford Coppola.  But I wouldn't worry about it now... he's prolly written you out of his will by now. (you might forward your apology in blood to his house)

- LOL Jarred.

Jarred, I would not dream of omitting FFC from the Director's Series. But, would it really be worth doing without the Godfather Trilogy or the upcoming new version of Appocolapse Now? Rest assured, true believer, Copola will be making an appearance in The Director's Series.

- Shaun

Shaun, I do really love your reviews! Keep them coming.
