Shadows
1x05
"Gee, I thought this was the one with the guy from Wings..."
The episode opens with a shot of a name plate saying "Howard Graves." That sounds like the name of a best-selling author, doesn't it? I mean, it makes me think of "Attend a Book-Signing with Howard Graves on Tuesday at Barnes & Noble."
Shadows is a very poor name for this episode. Not really poor, but it could have been more useful in Season 2 for Soft Light. Also, the guy's a friggin' ghost...he doesn't even HAVE a shadow.
I love the scene when the two "young people" pull down the fire escape [testing it to ensure the safety of those living in the apartment, of course, like good "young people" do.] and find dead bodies. Watch and listen to the "young man's" reaction. The girl does a good, normal scream, but the boy sounds so dumb! He's trying valiantly to scream, but sound tough in the process [hence avoiding Mulder's Girly Scream® from Jose Chung's "From Outer Space."] Instead, it just makes him look worse.
This episode contains one of my favorite [and, unfortunately, most used] quotes from the show. "I would never lie. I willfully participated in a campaign of misinformation."
Okay, is it just Victoria, here, or when Lauren gives her two-week notice for quitting, did it seem like her boss was going to burst into song regarding the matter?
Why is it that when an FBI agent gives his business card to someone they always say "Here's a number where you can reach me at any time." I mean, it's not like they printed business hours on them, so wouldn't that be a given? "Here's a number where you can reach me if I'm not in an underground missile silo or in the wilderness chasing beast women. In that case, you'll just have to deal with it."
When they are looking at surveillance tapes of Lauren with Howard Graves, doesn't the technician guy look like Graves?! It's such a Scooby-Doo thing! "It was you the whole time!"
Oh, nice Psycho tribute. When Lauren hears sounds from her bathroom, she investigates. It fills with blood and then runs down the drain. Hitchcock would be proud, I'm sure.
Alright, some unexpected visitors made the rest of this episode sort of blur, sorry. I'm just going to pretend that that was all that happened and cut this short. I know, I should be injured, but they should be hurt worse.
