The Gift
8x11

"Not the Cate Blanchett movie, but it's almost that awesome!"

Anyone else noticing a pattern? There are more and more episode titles that are names of movies. The Gift, Requiem (for a Dream), Our Town (a play), All Souls (there's some Winona Rider movie with a title like that, but I don't think it's exact), Christmas Carol (that was intentional, though), Unusual Suspects (The Usual Suspects, although that was intentional), The Unnatural (again, intentional), Terms of Endearment (once again, intentional), and Fight Club (intentional, but annoying because it wasn't cool like the movie).

ANYWAY, I really, really, enjoyed it. It was one of the best stand-alones this year. Actually more like, quite a few years. At first, I thought that this was going to be really dumb, but that was just because the promos were so crappy. They kept saying "Ooo! Mulder is in this one! Mulder! Mulder! Ooo! Look, it's Mulder!" They probably had every shot with Mulder in it because he was only in the episode for like 2 minutes.

The beginning did nothing but confuse me. I wasn't really interested in it by watching the teaser. [I just typed "toaster" instead of "teaser." Thought I'd just throw that in.] I was just blurting out smart-aleck remarks that typically don't come out of my mouth (although I'm always thinking them) during an X-Files episode. "What the heck is going on?" "That was just dumb!" etc. Of course, you all know what that means...this is gonna be a rockin' episode!

I wonder why they even showed Scully in the opening credits. She was only there for about 30 seconds, and that was a flashback scene. Maybe Gillian and David were having a competition to see who could be in the episode less.

Skinner was in it! How great is that?! PLUS, we get the Lone Gunmen. Although, their presence troubled me. Well, not actually their presence, but their interaction with Doggett. Why is Doggett so chummy with them? I mean, for the tough guy that he is, it doesn't seem like he would like computer geeks. And he barely knows them. He just met them in Via Negativa and he's already chatting with them like they're all old pals! Scully didn't warm up to them for like a season or so!

This episode was killer. Watch it, watch it NOW! ;)
