The Artist....
"One of Hancock's caricatures that caused amusement was entitled "Jineing the Pint."  It depicted the practical joke, common among the cadets, of telling strangers who came to the gates that all they had to do to enroll and become future officers was offer themselves to the authorities inside.  Many a bucolic passer-by was thus entrapped.

"Hancock's drawings of fortifications, arsenals, and military installations were executed with fine exactness...  What time he was not working on class drawings, Hancock was busy with handsome, well-executed pictures in color of the West Point buildings or with nature sketches.  His work in art stamped him as possessing strong creative talents and sensitivity.  As has been well pointed out, the artistic temperament is not unrelated to military leadership."
