Carrington Martin Dixon won the toss and Swindon took gates 1 & 3. Heat Details. 1.Neil Collins(68.24) Adrian Rymel, Martin Dixon, Mikeal Makovsky. 4-2, 4-2. From the gate, Dixon is chasing Rymel hard but challenge ends with a rear wheel puncture on the fourth turn of lap 3. He holds onto third comfortably. 2.Ritchie Hawkins(69.09) Josef Franc, Bevan Compton, Mark Steel(fx) - rerun. 3-3, 7-5. In he first run Ritchie makes a killer gate, followed by Steel, he locks up on the second turn and unsettles Steeler who then goes diving full pelt into the third turn, only to find Ritchie taking the tight inside line, he slides off and Compton lays down well. In the re-run its Ritchie all the way, with an uncomforatble looking Compton at he back, who subsequently withdraws from the meeting, citing the reoccurence of a back injury. 3.Alan Mogridge(68.68) Martin Dixon, Scott Lamb, Scott Robson(ret). 5-1, 12-6. From the tapes, Robson retires whilst last. 4.David Meldrum(70.49) Ritchie Hawkins, Josef Franc, Paul Fry(ef). 2-4, 14-10. Fry easily from the tapes steaks away into the distance until the secondbend of final lap, when he runs out of fuel (an oversight on the part of his mechanic!) Meldrum goes through with Ritchie buzzing all over his back wheel, until the final bend when Meldrum drifts wide as Ritchie pulls out a faultless last turn and looks for all the world to have snatched it on the line and celebrates accordingly, only for the ref to put the decision the way of the Berwick man. 5.Alan Mogridge(69.05) Martin Dixon, Adrian Rymel, Mikeal Makovsky. 5-1, 19-11. Again from the gate, Mad Dog looking as unsafe as usual! 6.Ritchie Hawkins(71.27) Neil Collins, Josef Franc, David Meldrum. 5-1, 24-12. Ritchie makes a storming gate and is sheparded home by Collins. The Berwick men cant make an impression. 7.Paul Fry(69.27) Scott Robson, Mark Steel, Scott Lamb. 4-2, 28-14. Robson from the gate, holds off both Robins, who are right on him, for 2 laps until Fryer drives up the inside an end up winning by a comfortable margin, Steel continues to chase but fails to pass. 8.Alan Mogridge(69.02) Mikeal Makovsky, Adrian Rymel, Ritchie Hawkins. 3-3, 31-17. Moggo misses the gate and the Czechs blast away but on the second bend Moggo drives upthe inside and past Rymel, up alongside Makovsky, holds the tight inside and gains the lead, holds it until the races end. Ritchie can't make an impression but never gives up trying. 9.Scott Robson(68.27) Alan Mogridge, Martin Dixon, David Meldrum. 3-3, 34-20. Robson from the gate and suprisingly Moggo can't catch him at all. Mad Dog with a comfortable third ahead of Meldrum. 10.Scott Robson(69.58) Mark Steel, Neil Collins, Scott Lamb. 3-3, 37-23. The Robins miss the gate, then Steel locks up in front of Corrie on the second turn, then they both shoot up to the awful Scott Lamb, Steeler goes round the outside on the third turn of lap 2, Corrie up the inside of him on the second turn of lap 3. 11.Paul Fry(68.12) Adrian Rymel, Mikeal Makovsky, Ritchie Hawkins, Mark Steel(ex2m). 3-3, 40-26. Fry tapes to flag, Ritchie misses the gate and again cant make an imprssion but still never gives up. 12.Martin Dixon(69.89) Josef Franc, Mark Steel, Mikeal Makovsky. 4-2, 44-28. Pretty much tapes to flag, but Steel has a couple of looks at Franc. 13.Paul Fry(69.49) Adrian Rymel, Neil Collins, David Meldrum. 4-2, 48-30 This was a procession, wth Fryer taking the chequred flag by the proverbial country mile. 14.Scott Robson(70.86) Ritchie Hawkins, Josef Franc, Mark Steel(fx) Alan Mogridge(ex/t) - 3rd re-run. 2-4, 50-34. This was fun!! In the first run Moggos clutch looks to fail and he rolls into the tapes, in the second run Ritchie makes a flying start but this is called back as unsatisfactory, though video replays show this is VERY harsh. In the 3rd attempt Steeler makes the gate and holds Robson off for a lap, but going into turn two of the second lap, catches some grip and goes ploughing into the fence at the exit of turn two, which he is starting to get to know quite well. His exclusion leaves Ritchie as the sole Robins representative, he gates well but Robson beats him into the first bend and this is how it stays. 15.Paul Fry(70.30) Adrin Rymel, Martin Dixon, Scott Robson. 4-2, 54-36. Fryer is away again, has looked largely untroubled all night, Mad Dog and Rymel are side by side on the back straight but Dicko is pushed wide and sensibly settles for third place. Heavy rain from 4 o clock onwards looked like it had put paid to the meeting but it was on and the track was in excellent condition, but the crowd must have been very disappointing for PT, this was an entertaining little match, Berwick were hit by Comptons withdrawral but the Czechs looked handy and Robson was good value for his 3 wins. Great night for Ritchie Hawkins, with his first ever double figure haul in the PL and Moggo and Fryer looked great, Fryer but for his heat 4 mishap looking unbeatable, a good preparation for the Overseas Final on Sunday.Final Score : Swindon 'Soft Water' Robins - 54 Berwick Bandits - 36 Back to 2001 results
