Speedway Control Board Referee: Mr M. Posselwhite
Weather was hot and sunny, the track was heavily watered and slick (Claus Kristensen told me!)
Coin Toss: Sean Wilson called heads and won, chooses gates 1 and 3 for heat 1.
Heat Details.
1.Robbie Kessler(68.10) Martin Dixon, Claus Kristensen, Rory Schlien
3-3, 3-3
Uneventful heat, the calm before the storm I suppose...
2.Adam Allott(awarded) Rory Schlien, Ritchie Hawkins(15mts) Mark Steel(fx) - rerun
4-2, 6-6
First run Ritchie does his party piece of rolling at the start, touches the tapes and gets
put 15 yards back, Steel comes out of the gate behind Allott and is made to chase, Hawkins
can't make an from 15 metres back. Steel loses contol going into last lap and crashes into 1st
band fence, race is awarded.
3.Simon Stead(66.17) Martin Dixon, Andrew Moore, Alan Mogridge(fx) - rerun.
2-4, 6-12
Moggo gates and Dicko comes out of turn two level with Stead, who pulls away. On the third
turn Moggos bike dies and he slides off, Steady and Mad Dog miss him but Moore can't avoid
and ploughs into him, Moores bike hitting Moggo on the head. After treatment they are both
able to go back to the pits on their feet. In the re-run Stead gates and wins the race in
the fastest time of the season.
4.Sean Wilson(67.45) Paul Fry, Ritchie Hawkins, Adam Allott
3-3, 9-15
Wilson from the gate, Allott tailed off behind Ritchie.
5.Martin Dixon(68.13) Robbie Kessler, Andrew Moore, Alan Mogridge(fx)
3-3, 12-18
Dixon gates from trap 1 and Moggo from gate 3 pushes Kessler wide but the can't get round
the outside of the wide riding Dicko and goes down, turning a Robins 5-1 into a 3-3.
6.Sean Wilson(67.44) Claus Kristensen, Alan Mogridge, Rory Schlien
3-3, 15-21
Wilson pulls away from Kristensen whilst Moggo settles for 3rd.
7.Simon Stead(66.98) Paul Fry, Andrew Moore, Mark Steel(ef)
2-4, 17-25
Fry can't catch Stead, Steel efs whilst leading Moore.
8.Simon Stead(67.17) Paul Fry, Adam Allott, Ritchie Hawkins
2-4, 19-29
Stead wins again from Fryer, Allott plugs away and holds third.
9.Sean Wilson(67.92) Martin Dixon, Alan Mogridge, Rory Schlien
3-3, 22-32
Wilson by a distance.
10.Simon Stead(67.92) Alan Mogridge, Andrew Moore, Claus Kristensen
2-4, 24-36
Race of the night, r/r Moggo and Stead duel for the lead for 3 laps with it changing hands
on a good few occasions, on the second bend of lap 4 Moggo drift a tiny bit but it allows
Stead to pull away and win. This lad looks red hot, great prospect as we all know. Great race.
11.Robbie Kessler(69.55) Mark Steel, Rory Schlien, Paul Fry(ef)
2-4, 26-40
Fryer gates and is winning by a streak until his bike conks out on lap 4, Steel challenges Kessler
for the win but settles for 2nd. The Robins still have not hit one heat advantage.
12.Simon Stead(68.07) Martin Dixon, Mark Steel, Rory Schlien, Ritchie Hawkins(ex/t) - rerun
3-3, 29-43
Stead again easily, competes a 15 point full house.
13.Sean Wilson(68.71) Robbie Kessler, Paul Fry, Martin Dixon
1-5, 30-48
Dicko in as a tac sub for Clausy, its in vein as Sheffield hit their 2nd 5-1.
14.Alan Mogridge(69.11) Mark Steel, Andrew Moore, Adam Allott
5-1, 35-49
Thank Christ!! Moggo and Steeler steamroller to a 5-1, showing what might have been. You
have never heard a more ironic cheer in your life, guarenteed.
15.Sean Wilson(68.73) Alan Mogrdige, Robbie Kessler, Martin Dixon
2-4, 37-53
Moggo splits the Sheffo pair, Wilson joins Stead on a full 15 points.
Not much to say about this one, the result speaks for itself, a truly shambolic team
performance and a top quality Sheffield side made us pay. Wilson was as good as usual at the
Abbey and Stead was awesome. Sheffield gated like heros and fully deserved the win.
Final Score : Swindon 'Soft Water' Robins - 37 Sheffield "Star" Tigers - 57
