Heat 1 - Kristensen ; Dixon ; Bird ; Swain(R) ; 71.0 (1-5)(1-5) 1-5 from the tapes, Swain pulls up whilst last. Heat 2 - Watt ; Rossiter ; Phillips ; Hawkins ; 71.4 (4-2)(5-7) Watt from the gate, with Rosco splitting the IOW duo. Heat 3 - Mogridge ; Watt ; Shields ; Hawkins ; 71.1 (3-3)(8-10) Moggo tapes to flag, Sheilds hit a rut whilst second but lostplacing only to team mate Watt. Heat 4 - Phillips ; Rossiter ; Fry ; Morton(R) ; 72.4 (3-3)(11-13) Morton pulls up whilst leading at the end of lap 1. Fryer suffers in the ruts. Heat 5 - Shields ; Kristensen ; Dixon ; Swain(R) ; 70.9 (3-3)(14-16) Sheilds and Clausy and Dixon and Swain paired off, the Islanders pull ahead in both battles but Swain against suffers engine trouble and pulls up on lap 2. Heat 6 - Rossiter ; Fry ; Swain ; Bird(R) ; 72.0 (1-5)(15-21) Rosco and Fryer gate and lead for nearly a lap when Bird gets the drive and goes around the outside of both Robins, before conking out!! Swain then almost pulls up for the third straight time but keeps it going for a point. Heat 7 - Morton ; Watt ; Hawkins ; Mogridge(F) ; 74.0 (5-1)(20-22) Moggo gates and leads the Islanders but goes down in the ruts on the second lap, clears his bike from the track but looks hurt. The Islanders are gifted a 5-1. Heat 8 - Watt ; Phillips ; Dixon ; Rossiter ; 72.2 (5-1)(25-23) Dicko challenges but is outpaced and a 5-1 puts IOW in the lead for the 1st time. Heat 9 - Rossiter ; Shields ; Fry ; Phillips ; 71.4 (2-4)(27-27) Rosco gates and holds on for 4 laps for the win, Fryer passes both Sheilds and Phillips and it looks like a 5-1, but Fryers engine starts making nasty noises and though he keeps it going he loses a place to Sheilds. Heat 10 - Bird ; Swain ; Dixon ; Mogridge ; 71.1 (5-1)(32-28) 5-1 all the way. Heat 11 - Morton ; Kristensen ; Watt ; Dixon ; 71.8 (4-2)(36-30) Morton wins a battle with Kristensen, Dicko is beaten easily by Watt for a 4-2 to the Islanders. Heat 12 - Shields ; Rossiter ; Mogridge ; Phillips ; 71.7 (3-3)(39-33) 3-3 all the way, Starting to look worrying for the Robins. Heat 13 - Morton ; Fry ; Bird ; Kristensen ; 71.5 (4-1)(43-35) From the tapes, Kristensen and Bird both suffer problems but Bird gets the decision. Heat 14 - Shields ; Fry ; Rossiter ; Watt ; 71.4 (3-3)(46-38) All four neck and neck into the back straight, Sheilds edges away for the win, giving IOW the match. Heat 15 - Shields ; Bird ; Fry ; Mogridge ; 71.1 (5-1)(51-39) Academic to the match, crucial to the bonus point and the Islanders bang in a 5-1 to make the return on August the 2nd an interesting one.. Heavy rendered the track in a less than desirable condition and mechanical gremlins affected the match in a big way but the Robins should perhaps have made more of a match of it than they did, but their luck was not in.
