Heat 1 Gjedde, Kristensen,Dixon, Palmer, Mackay (EX 2mins) 3-3 [3-3] Mackay had major bike problems on the warm up lap after the introductions and missed this hat being replaced by Tommy Palmer. After that this was decided from the gate as Gjedde exploded from the gate to lead, Dicko and Kristensen momentarily got in each others way on turn 2 before Kristensen gets 2nd place. Heat 2 Rossiter, Palmer, Hawkins, Schramm 4-2 [7-5] Rossiter first from the tapes followed by the Racers pairing with Ritchie last away. Ritchie passes Schramm quickly and sets off after Palmer, he tries the outside pass repeatedly but Palmer ride him out wide each time, so that's how it finished with a comfortable win for Rosco. Heat 3 Mullet, Gjedde, Moggo, Allen 1-5 [8-10] A easy 5 - 1 from Mullett and Gjedde as they burst from the tapes leaving the robins standing. Mullett leads while Gjedde plugs the gaps behind him frustrating Moggo's attempts to split the Racers. Heat 4 Cunningham, Fry, Hawkins, Palmer 3-3 [11-13] Cunningham and Fry drive from the tapes shoulder to shoulder from the outside traps while Ritchie outgates Palmer. Around the carpark bend Cunningham wins the drag race with Fry and increases his lead down the back straight. With his nose in front Glenn sets off and although Fryer is in close attendance throughout the race track expert Cunningham easily holds Fry off by controlling the outside line. Hawkins easily keeps Palmer behind him having for once gated. Heat 5 Allen, Gjedde,Moggo,Mackay 4-2 [15-15] Gjedde leads from the gate but Ollie drives around the outside and passes Gjedde out of turn 2. Moggo tucks in 3rd and chases Gjedde while Mackay is tailed off at the back. Ollie rides hard for the 4 laps with Gjedde behind him but the riders start to get strung out as the race continues. Heat 6 Cunningham, Dicko, Kristensen, Schramm 3-3 [18-18] From the gate with Glenn steaking out into the lead with Dicko and Claus filling the minor places, Schramm looking well off the pace. Heat 7 Mullet,Fry,Rossiter,Mackay 3-3 [21-21] Mullet drives from the gate and uses the outside line pass Fry, Rosco tucks into 3rd with RR Mackay again well at the back. Fry tries both outside and inside but Mullet on his best ever performance on his worst track uses his very fast bike to keep ahead of the ever trying Fry. Heat 8 Dixon, Palmer, Hawkins,Schramm 4-2 [ 25-23] Dixon from the gate for an easy win, the main race was between Hawkins and Palmer with again Hawkins trying the outside and Palmer blocking him, however towards the end of the race Hawkins tried the inside line but just cannot get close enough to pass. Schramm again off the pace. Heat 9 Moggo, Cunningham, Allen, Palmer 4-2 [29--25] From the gate its a 5-1 for the Robins but Ollie pulls a big wheelie coming out of the corner and this allows both Moggo and Glenn C past. From there it was pretty much to the tapes. Heat 10 Mullett, Dixon, Kristensen, Schramm 3-3 [32-28] Mullet from the gate with Dicko and Claus following, but an extraordinary burst of speed from Chris Schramm takes him under Dicko and pushes both of them across blocking Claus who goes to the back. Dicko sets off after Mullett and Claus chases after Schramm. Claus looks for 2 laps for a outside pass and is simply too slow so on the last bend he cuts back on the inside of Schramm and sneaks the points on the line. Heat 11 Rossiter,Gjedde,Fry (Fell Remounted), Mackay FX 4-2 [36-30] From the gate Fryer leads until the 2nd turn where he sides off and this allows Rosco through into the lead. Gjedde sets off after and is always close behind but Rosco uses his track knowledge to keep the faster Gjedde behind him. Rosco rides and wider line on the carpark bend but keeps in tight on the pits bend for the win. At the back Fryer remounts and takes off in hope of catching Mackay but doesn't really close in too much when on the last lap Brendon Mackay parks it on turn 2 and the ref hits the red lights quickly. Result? Race awarded to Swindon as a 4-2. Heat 12 Gjedde, Moggo, Mullett, Hawkins 2-4 [38-34] As Swindon are now 6 points in come the changes, Mullett as a RR and Gjedde as a TS, a Racers 5 -1 looks a certainty. From the gate it's the predicted 5-1 but this time Mullet does not keep up with Gjedde and Moggo attacks under Mullett into the pits bend and takes 2nd place to split the Racers pairing. Would be nice to know why Rosco was not in this heat, answers on a post card please. Heat 13 Gjedde, Cunningham, Kristensen, Fry (Fell) 1-5 [39-39] From the gate Gjedde,Fry,Kristensen and Glenn at the back, but Cunningham passes Claus easily down the back straight, that's how it stays until Fry falls under no pressure and gifts the points to the Racers. Heat 14 Mullett, Allen, Rosco, Palmer 3-3 [42-42] With Gjedde and Cunningham looming in Heat 15 it was a nervous bunch of Robins fans that hoped for a max from Ollie and Rosco. However Mullet led from the tapes and Palmer nosed in front of Ollie. This allowed Mullett to getaway while Ollie passed Palmer and then passed Rosco, but Mullett was gone and Ollie couldn't make any impression on Mullett. Heat 15 Moggo, Gjedde,Fry,Mullett 4-2 [46-44] First shock was the omission of Cunningham and the inclusion of Mullett. Swindon nominate Moggo and Fry while Mullett and Gjedde are in for the Racers. Moggo goes off 1, Gjedde off 2, Fry 3 and Mullett 4. Moggo makes the gate of the night and flies away pushing Gjedde out a little in the turn allowing him to get away from Gjedde a little, these 2 leave Fry and Mullett to decide the match. From the gate Mullett lead briefly before Fry passed him however Mullet drove around him on the turn 2 to get back to 3rd. Fry quickly got back close to Mullett and pressurised him into turn 3 on lap 2, Mullett under pressure drifted wide and Fry dived down the inside of the Mullett and carries under him into 3rd place in turn 1 on lap 3. Mullett tries to pass Fry again on the outside of turn 2 but Fry just holds him out down the back straight and the 2 of them charge on with Fry holding 3rd to the flag despite starting to trail of blue smoke. So the Robins play the "Get out of Jail" yet again and just sneak a win. Swindon Claus : Kristensen was poor looking well down on power Dicko : Mr Consistency again racks up a good paid 9 Moggo : Won the match with his only good gate of the night in Heat 15 and therefore won the Man of the Match award easily. Ollie : Seemed to struggle with gating and having problems getting the power he showed in beating Gjedde, down to the track. Fryer : Fell twice and that says it all, although he and Moggo won the match, another who looked down on power. Rosco : Rode well again including the beating of Charlie Gjedde, why he was not used instead of Ritchie Heat 12? Ritchie : Again struggled with his gating especially in heat 2, but looked quick when he did manage to beat Palmer out of the tapes. Reading Gjedde : Was surprisingly beaten, as most Robins fans expected a max for him on previous form, still a good 17 score though. Mackay : didn't have much luck with his machinery but seems to have real problems with his bikes as he seemed to be fighting his machine rather than riding. Seems to have a good style and will hopefully improve. Mullett : was amazing considering his open hatred of Swindon, it looks that the Gjedde motor he was using is well suited to Blunsdon. Nearly the match winner. Cunningham : again put a great performance in showing much better than Castagna would have scored. This clearly highlighted that this Reading team was much stronger than had their team been at full strength. Palmer : didn't trouble the big boys much but hopefully Ritchie will learn from his battles with Tommy today. Schramm : looked completely off the pace apart from his last ride. Final Score : Swindon Robins 46(92) Reading Racers 44(88) Thanks to Stuart Watt for the match report. Back to 2001 results
