An air of nervous tension can be felt where I am standing, I have no news from the pits for this one as I arrived at 6:28pm, cutting it fine or what?!! Threatening rain results in the abandonment of the parade, Martin Dixon wins the toss and takes gate 1 and 3 in heat 1. Heat Details.
Heat 1 Wilson, Fry, Rossiter, Moore 3-3 [3-3] Fryer drives from the gate and gives Wilson some close attention, is visibly annoyed with himself when he locks up on the second turn of the second lap, which effectively end his challenge but doesn't give up and was always in a position to capitalise on any mistake from Wilson. Rosco comfortably 3rd. Heat 2 Dixon, Complin, Hawkins, Redmond 4-2 [7-5] Mad Dog from the gate and takes it easily, Complin beats Hawkins from the traps and looks comfortable on hs first ever visit to Swindon. Ritchie just can't seem to get the hang of the overtaking line, has the speed to pass but never seems to. Heat 3 Allen, Stead, Kristensen, Allott 4-2 [11-7] Olly from the gate and rides a steady race to take the victory. Clausy looks down on power and doesn't challenge Stead, Allott is close at hand but never seems to threaten. Heat 4 Mogridge, Kessler, Hawkins, Redmond(exc/unfair riding) 4-2 [15-9] Moggo flies from the start and Kessler chases to no avail, the interest is at the back, Redmond outgates Hawkins and holds him off for 2 laps, but on the second turn of the 3rd lap he locks up and Ritchie has no-where to go but down, the race is not stopped but as Ritchie pulls his bike ontothe centre green the yellow exclusion light goes on and Redmond is subsequently annonced to have been excluded for unfair riding and Ritchie awarded 3rd place. Heat 5 Wilson, Allen, Kristensen, Moore 3-3 [18-12] Wilson gets a flier as the tapes go up, Olly gains but doesn't get close enough to try a pass. Clausy holds 3rd comfortably. Heat 6 Fry, Kessler, Rossiter, Complin 4-2 [22-14] Fryer out of the gate and away for victory, Rosco level with Kessler on the back straight but drops behind over the course of the race. Heat 7 Mogridge, Stead, Dixon, Allott 5-1 [26-16] Nothing spectacular here, Moggo riding the wide line where all the dirt seems to be but Stead won't come off the inside where there is a lack of any dirt whatsoever. Allott doesn't challenge. Heat 8 Stead, Rossiter, Redmond, Hawkins 2-4 [28-20] Tac sub Stead has the speed to beat off Rosco, who spends two laps trying to pass Redmond after he makes a very impressive gate, Rosco looks to be going outside him on the pits bend but cuts underneath and spends the final tow laps trying to slow Redmond down to give Ritchie a shot, but it doesn't come off. Heat 9 Wilson, Kessler, Kristensen, Allen(f/ex) 2nd re-run 1-5 [29-25] In the first running first bend bunching causes Olly to go down hard into the first bend fence after Wilson has missed the gate and Clausy has made it. Olly looks unhappy with the track. In the re-run Olly goes wide and cracks into the 2nd bend fence and stays down, this is after Clausy has outgated both Tigers and is away into the lead. Olly is excluded and in the 2nd re-run the inevitable happens, Wilson and Kessler blast from the gate for a storming 5-1 but Clausy ends half a lap behind as his engine is making a tinny grinding noise for the whole race and he seems to be lucky to keep it going for 4 laps. Heat 10 Rossiter, Stead, Fry, Allott 4-2 [33-27] Rosco all the way from the gate, Stead holds off the Fryer, on the last lap he locks up and goes wide on turn 2, rears up and does an impromtu wheelie down the back straight and then drifts wide on turns 3 and 4, Fryer still can't pass. Heat 11 Mogridge, Wilson, Moore, Dixon(fell) 3-3 [36-30] Moggo and Dicko fly from the tapes and relegate Wilson to third, but Wilson has more speed than Dicko and passes him on the back straight of lap 3, Mad Dog tries a daring outside pass on turns 3/4 of the same lap but goes down, gifting the Tigers a 3-3 and Moore his only points of the evening. Heat 12 Allen, Stead, Dixon, Kessler, Hawkins(ex/2m) 4-2 [40-32] Kessler in as a tac sub for Complin, this is the second ride Complin has been removed from so will have to have one in the next 3 races. Ritchie excluded on 2mins. From the gate Stead leads and it is a 3-3, Kessler well at the back. Olly locks up and is some distance behind Stead going into lap 2. Gradually reels him in over the next 3 laps and on the last bend throws himself around the outside and has the speed to take him past Steady on the line, how he managed it I will never know! Race of the night. Heat 13 Mogridge, Fry, Wilson, Kessler 5-1 [45-33] The Robins fly from the gate and all of a sudden the match is secure and the Robins can be looking at building a lead for the bonus. Heat 14 Kristensen, Dixon, Complin, Redmond(fell) 5-1 [50-34] Complin in for Allott to take his last obligatory ride. Kristensen solid from the start, Redmond outgates Mad Dog but is under constant pressure and drifts wide on the 3rd bend of the 2nd lap allowing Dicko to slip through, Redmond then falling under the pressure but there was nothing illegal! Heat 15 Wilson, Mogridge, Fry, Stead 3-3 [53-37] You could see that Wilson was determined at the start of this one not to let Moggo hit a max and proceeded to spoil the party with a good win from the gate, though Moggo was always in close attendance. Fryer safe in 3rd. After the race Wilson does a wheelie and Moggo treats us all to his famous lap standing on his seat celebration, good stuff! This was a great team performance from the Robins and they did ever so well to subdue the Tigers top two of Wilson and Stead. Mogridge the best rider this evening, battled all the way for his 14, was unlucky not to complete his max but as it was Wilson he lost it to i'll let him off!! Swindon Fryer : Battled hard, could have scored a couple more but he should be happy with this score. Rosco : Kept the score ticking over with a battling paid 8. Olly : 2 cracking victories over Steady, fell twice in heat 9 and looked unhappy but he came out to take a win in heat 12, so he was ok. Clausy : Looked down on power again, but got a crucial win in heat 14. Moggo : Was the best rider on show this evening, very impressive from the starts and was unlucky not to complete his max. Dicko : Chipped in with some good points, would have had another but for his fall in heat 11. Ritchie : Disappointing in running two lasts, but was gifted a point when he was knocked off in heat 4.. Sheffield Wilson : 4 race wins but beaten twice to end a run of about 4 or 5 maximums around Swindon! Moore : Poor, his only point was gifted due to Dixons fall. Stead : Didn't look as if he liked the conditions, riding the inside line where there was no dirt at all. Allott : Suprisingly quiet after previous impressive performances at the Abbey. Kessler : If he didnt gate he had no chance. Complin : Looked up for a race but didnt make his mark. Redmond : Same as Complin, looked up for a battle but didnt pull anything off.. Final Score : Swindon Robins 53 Sheffield Tigers 37 Back to 2001 results
