I first tried mosaics when I wanted to make a memento for my grandson, Tyler, of our camping trip. I collected lots of river pebbles and glued them onto a store bought frame. It was such a personal gift yet basically very inexpensive.
My father often called me "magpie" because I stopped and picked up anything and everything that was shiny. And with my love of puzzles, and putting things back together again, this seemed to be what I was looking for.
Now I have an excuse for seeking out shiny objects and puzzling them into something new and special.
I am lucky to have a supportive family ( Richard, my husband , 3 grown boys, a daughter-in-law, and 2 grandsons) that appreciate my art. They know it helps to keep me sane.
I do this for the pure joy and relaxation of finding a home for "broken" objects.
And if it feels like art, it must be art.
Mosaics date back thousands of years, last a lifetime and more, and are pleasing to the senses. With glass, the colors change depending on the light source. This causes the perspective to change. Mosaics is not only a sight art but a feel art too. Pleasing to look at: a few steps back and you get the whole picture, up close, the intricacies of each piece-and you must touch it!!
