entry:
Well, high school is over. I guess I'll do it like this. It was the first summer after I twelfth grade. It was on 5/20/6. Me and Brian got there like an hour early, and we were hungry as fuck. So, we went to Publix and he got a sub, I got a Philly cheese steak sub, and we got a big thing of lemonade. We ate at one of the tables just outside Publix on the side of their building. Every time I eat there I think of Alena. Travis.....shut up. Anyways, there was a bunch of annoying emo kids at one of the tables, as usual. They were very loud and obnoxious. They were in like middle school. Yah, so after we were done eating, we walked back to RAY'S. We sat around for a while. Eventually Alex Checkman started taking money and let us in. So, there's like twenty people there. No joke. I know, BOYSETSFIRE, twenty people, huh? It's kind of like that one time when no one showed up to GOD FORBID at THE KELSEY CLUB. Or like that one time when no one showed up to any of the official shows at RAY'S that I've been to, except that Evergreen Terrace one when MTV was there. HMMM. Anyways. So, there's like twenty people there, and me and Brian must be the oldest ones. No joke. Everyone there is like between the ages of twelve and sixteen. I had never seen this type of crowd at a show before. Then I realized....I had never been to a show that was mostly emo bands. Well, Anniston was supposed to be the local band opening but I guess they cancelled and MASON took the spot. It's not like I liked them before I saw them, but God damn......I think they're fucking terrible. I really don't understand how they've gotten so popular. Actually, I do. So, me and Brian are chilling in the back on a couch. All of a sudden Kevin Hawk comes in and starts talking to us about hardcore and really doesn't stop for the rest of the night, not that anything's wrong with that. It was funny listening to the guys from BOYSETSFIRE talking about METALLICA. Don't know why. So, VERSUS THE MIRROR and THE FULLY DOWN decided to switch spots, which is good for me cause then it's like the two bands I came to see play back to back. So, VERSUS THE MIRROR got on next and I wasn't really diggin their stuff. Their vocalist looks like David Golding. Kevin decided to start his own pit. He was the only one dancing. After them THE FULLLY DOWN got on. They were so fucking fun. They had three guitars....because they're awesome. They're really nice and funny.....and one of the guitarists is hot as hell and he looks like a cross between a hippie and an eighties rock star. They dedicated all their songs to weird things like fashion, prom, and unprotected sex. Right. So, BOYSETSFIRE was so fucking awesome. Their set list was as follows:
1. The Force Manure
2. pure
3. release the dogs
4. Falling Out Theme
5. handful of redemption
6. My Life in Knife Trade
7. rookie
8. requiem
9. After the Eulogy
Their was this fat chick dancing all annoying. Not like hardcore dancing, but like dancing dancing. So, after the second song, Nathan, singer, was like "Nice moves. at least someone in here has rhythm," and she was like "You know me. I'm the tooth chipper," and then he was like "OH! OH MY GOD! THAT'S RIGHT! Twice in my life, Twice in my life I have had a microphone smashed into my teeth by this woman." I find it really funny that they're all a bunch of skinny guys in their twenties or thirties, and their one guitarist is this massive hairy fat guy in his forties or fifties. At one point, Nathan got into a conversation with everyone in the audience about some sad kid that was in front of the venue that was really sad or something. So, the fat hairy guy was like "Everyone surround him and shower him with love. It's cause he's been listening to too much THURSDAY." During Release the Dogs, the fat old guitarist was lookin at me and laughing and lipping the owrds with me. During Handful of Redemption, Nathan did that with me. They were real fun. I've been waiting a long time to see them. it was satisfying even though it was really shitty crowd.
