THE RICHNESS OF BEING POOR

The difference between you and me
Its a difference that is plain to see
You had it all handed to you on a platter
How much it cost, it simply didnt matter
You had the expensive clothes and shiny rings
Everything I wished I had, you owned those things

You woke in the morning in you in your 5000 dollar suite
You placed those expensive slippers on your feet
Your butler hurried in to do your make up and hair
As you sit in your Ethan Allen blow up chair
Looking in the mirror, practicing your "im better than you" glares
As your butler brings the finest breakfast for you up stairs
You ride to school in your fancy limousine
You arrive at school, making your usual scene

At the same time, I wake in the room which I share
Getting up in my bare feet, I brush my own hair
I dont eat breakfast at home because there is no food for me
I have to go to school and eat it there, because I get it for free
My mom drives me to school in our 86 Buick Pariseen
I get out of the car and see you making your grand entrance scene

You think I dont know that im poor?
You think I dress the way I do because I want to?
I see the clothes you have
My whole outfit costs less than your shoes

But there is one think that I know for sure
You might have it all
And I just might be poor
But I will grow up
Living my life as im going through hell
But I will have the knowledge
That theres more to life than fancy clothes
Cars and CD`s
And I will fight harder
Which will make me stronger
And I wil end up having more to give
