COMEDIES

Flicks that A: Make me laugh or B: Try to make me laugh.

40 Days and 40 Nights Once you ignore the silly premise (only in Josh "Squinty-eyed"  Hartnett's dreams would he have trouble preventing women from sleeping with him) this movie is pretty funny.  I thought girl from Night's tale was a bit of a drama queen ("You didn't reveal all your inner most secrets in the first two dates? I can never forgive you!"). She irritated my more than the silly premise. **

Anger Management Adam Sandler actually plays the strait man sorta which is totally cool.  The ending kind of made no sense (in a "yeah right" way not a "huh?" way) but yeah it was a stupid good movie. ***

Austin Powers Goldmember As hillarious as the first two! Lots of funny surprises. Mike Myers rules! I love this movie. *****

Bowling for Columbine Before seeing this I was all like "A documentary? Sounds boring. ZZZzzzZzZZz." But it's actually pretty funny (er, I mean thought provoking). Lots of stupid Americans (yes, I know there are smart Americans out there but they weren't well represented in this film) so I laughed. ***

Bringing Down the House I like Steve Martin and Queen Latifah.  They're funny.  Hence this movie was funny.  Eugene Levy was also in it and he's funny too.  ***

Bruce Almighty This movie is hillarious. Of course Jim Carrey has to learn some schmarmy marmy life lessons while he's doing God's job but it's only a minor pause in the hillarity.****

The Crew This was a fun movie that I watched on tv in the middle of the afternoon. It's about a bunch of retired mob wise guys who live in Miami. It loses lots of points for giant plot holes and gains them back again for making me laugh. **

DADDY DAY CARE Yeah this was funny, but not a must see or anything. I liked the guy who made all the star trek references. He made the movie for this Trekker. **

DUMB AND DUMBERER: WHEN HARRY MET LLOYD The guy who plays Jim Carey's character is just sooo Jim Carey it's like they time warped into the past and got Jim Carey as a teen and brought him to the present to do this flick. The other guy was good in it too. A lot of the jokes from the first one (or second one or whatever) are reused here. Still, funny stuff. ***

Eight-legged Freaks Wasn't completely stupid.  This movie kind of reminded me of Independence Day, not because it was anything like it, but because both movies have a similar humour and impossible-to-be-real events.  Also both flicks are a nod to circa 50s-60s sci fi movies.  Which is a good thing to nod to. Unfortunately this was the third movie of three at the drive-in so I fell asleep. What I saw was pretty funny but I'm not itching to see it again so I can catch the ending or anything. **

Haiku Tunnel This is a funny weird movie about temp at a law firm who goes perm. Very amusing. ***

The Hot Chick This girl turns into Rob Schneider with hilarious results. Just like Shallow Hal the movie was trying to teach a "valuable lesson" but was way too silly to do that. If you're in the mood for a so stupid it's good movie I recommend this one. ***

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days  My sister said this was so funny she almost peeed herself.  So I saw it.  Either Matthew McConaughey has been type cast as a stupid dork or he actually is one, I haven't decided.  Some parts gave me a half smile but at no point in the movie did I feel like urinating with laughter. *

I Spy  Not the funniest spy spoof in the universe but still fairly amusing.  Owen Wilson still has a crooked nose and Eddie Murphy is annoying so what can one expect?  The girl who played a bond girl one time and the metamorph in the TNG episode with the metamorph was in it.  Not bad. ***

Johnny English If you like Mr Bean (like me) you'll probably like this too. Not all the parts were funny but not all the funny parts were in the preview. Good Job guys. ****

Kate & Leopold You kind of have to like sappy romantic comedies, which I do, on occasion. There's some in continuity that wouldn't bother most people who like sappy romantic comedies. (Kate shouldn't be in those pictures, think about it!) I still enjoyed it. Hugh Jackman is a cutie. Great chemistry between Hugh and Meg. ***

The Last Man This is a pretty funny movie about guy who literally is the last man on Earth. The last woman on Earth (Seven of Nine) tolerates the not-so-attractive last man until she finds out that he's only the second last man on Earth, and the other guy's way cuter. ***

LEGALLY BLONDE 2: RED, WHITE & BLONDE If you like the first one, this is the same sorta deal. **

Men in Black II Not as good as the first one but what sequel is? (except Wrath of Khan, Terminator 2, My Girl 2, The Empire Strikes Back and the Spy who Shagged Me). I lost my point. Anyway Wil Smith tries to get post-office clerk Tommy Lee Jones' memories back after an underwear model with tentacles takes over MIB headquarters. Lots of funny new aliens and funny old aliens but the joke got old. **

Men With Brooms The lady sitting behind me thought this movie was the most hilarious movie in the history of cinema.  She laughed at every joke no matter how lame.  I might have enjoyed the movie better if I weren't sitting in front of a hyena. The movie was quite funny. It's about curling and love. I don't recommend it if you're not Canadian.  Since I am Canadian, I give movies with herds of beavers extra points. ***

Mr. Deeds This movie was too cliché and predictable to be totally hilarious. Did you know that it's a remake? Anyway I didn't really believe the romance between Winona and Adam but the Spanish butler was quite amusing. *

My Big Fat Greek Wedding This is a super funny movie about this woman who's Greek and this man who's not falling in love. The Greek family is loud and crazy just like mine. ****

The New Guy I didn't really want to see this movie but it was playing at the drive-in with Spiderman. This nerd who got his penis broken in front of the whole school ends up in jail and gets an inmate tell him how to be cool. He gets expelled on purpose so he can start fresh at a new school where he meets one of the girls from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. A few laughs but really just a really stupid movie. **

Royal Tennenbaums This movie is a black comedy I guess. Star-studded. The family is ten times weirder than they seem in the previews which makes it kind of good.  Owen Wilson still looks like his nose is broken. Why don't these stars fix their faces? They have the money.  Anyway everyone was pretty good in this movie, particularly Gene Hackman who's good at playing a sleazeball.  Also I quite enjoyed this bit character named Dudley, a dyslexic, colorblind kid with amnesia and an acute sense of hearing.  ***

The Santa Clause 2 Santa has to get married by X-mas Eve or he turns back into Tim Allen!  If you liked the original you'll probably like SC2. It's funny and X-masy and everything. The kid from The Kid (mini Bruce Willis) is in it as an elf.  Worf is in it for like a minute (only he's been surgically altered to appear human), he plays the sandman. Love the Molanator! ***

Scooby Doo A fabulous live-action version of a fabulous cartoon.  ***

Showtime This is a funny movie. Robert DeNiro should always do comedies. Eddie Murphy's cool too. I thought some of the funniest bits were with William Shatner. Bill was showing Ed and Robbie how to be like T.J. Hooker. Shatner wasn't in it nearly enough though. ***

The Tuxedo Jackie Chan at his finest.  You're hilarious JC. But here's a tip: maybe you shouldn't make attack mode the default setting on your tux.  Then you wouldn't accidentally beat so many people up. Jennifer Love Hewitt didn't do to bad in this movie either. ***

Van Wilder This movie could have been funnier.  It had the funniness and cheesiness of your average teen movie but not the over the top ridiculousness I expect from National Lampoon.  Plus it had that stupid girl from American Pie in it.  She is so boring.  I like Van's assistant Taj he is the funniest. *
