Horror/Thriller
These movies A: Made me jump or B: Tried to make me jump.
Feardotcom
Believe it or not the website we're talking about is not
www.fear.com it's
www.feardotcom.com. What kind of website
is that? The movie was confusing at the beginning, tried to be scary and
failed, and (once I realized what the heck was going on) was dumb. *
Frailty Matthew McConaughey walks into
an FBI agents office and tells the story of his crazy hick family. His
daddy, Bill Paxton, had an angel come to him one night and tell him to destroy
demons. The angel/God gave him three weapons, including an axe with the name
OTIS written on it. Bill also got a list of demon names. "But these are peoples
names, Pa." Bill and his two sons (young Matthew McConaughey and his
brother) have lots of family killings with their new friend OTIS. This
movie has a rather predictable twist ending with some other not so predictable
bits. Pretty good in the chilling department. I spent most of the time yelling
at the stupid kid (but he was in the movie and couldn't hear me). Overall pretty
good. **
The Order Heathy is cute and all but what was the deal with this movie? It was very strange, which is good. And very dark, which is good. Ok so I guess it was good. But then it was also predictable. Also I heard that the effects had to be redone because they looked like calamari (BTW: they still do). **
The Others A classic ghost flick. I won't
give away too much. It should have been called "The Intruders" (see the movie
and you'll see what I mean). Nicole Kidman plays the mother of two kids who
can't take sunlight and Data's Mom (who's in everything these days) plays her
house keeper. Lots of fun; very spooky. ***
Panic Room
I always like Jodie Foster. They got a girl to play her kid that kind of looks
like her. Her and the kid have to hide in the panic room while a bunch of guys
try to get in to get at the safe which contains millions of dollars! Very
suspenseful. ****
Queen of the Damned
Plot
of movie: Cute vampire becomes a rock star. Vampires are not allowed to be rock
stars. Not even good looking vampires. Other vampires get mad. Oh and Aaliyah's
in it as the Queen of the Damned. Out of respect for the dead I won't say what a
bad actor she is. This is a fabulous vampire movie for any vampire movie fan.
***
Red
Dragon I never saw the other ones but this one was lots of fun. Lots
of famous people were in it. Ralph Fiennes is a good killer but he doesn't
eat people. Eddie Norton asks Hannibal (Tony) for help catching Ralph
because he's a psycho too. But all Tony does is try to scare Eddie and doesn't
give enough good advice for it to be worth it. Emily Watson is good at
being blind. ***
The Ring
Eireann
explained the whole plot of this movie (the ending and everything) before I saw
it. That kind of made it less scary (not that I think it would be scary to begin
with I'm just saying it might have been). Anyway the plot reminded me of
Feardotcom same idea only this time the ghost makes a video instead of a
webpage. That made it more plausible for me because I know ghosts only use
old-fashioned technology (if it were a DVD I wouldn't've believed it). Anyway it should've been called
"The Tape" instead of a "The Ring" but nobody asked my opinion when they were
thinking up titles. **
Signs You know how sometimes in a movie you
know something's going to jump out and scare you but when it does you jump
anyway? This movie does that. Even the bits that are in the preview and I knew
exactly what was going to happen made me jump. The bits that aren't scary are
funny. Mel "don't call me Father" Gibson plays a former reverend and the
emperor with the lip scar plays his brother. Mel's kids are some cute girl and
Rory Culkin (who looks a lot like you-know-who). And there are aliens. That
funky crop circle G wasn't in the actual movie credits though. Signs left me a
bit shaken so I was angry at the movie for manipulating me but I guess I liked
it. ****
