The term "Final Fantasy" essentially means "Last Dream." If they're all a "Last Dream," then why does the series continue? I figure it's because each game is an entire story within itself, with universal morals and a little bit of fantasy to it. In other words, I think they're all called "Final Fantasy" because it's the end of an unrealistic occurrence of some sort. I can, however, be wrong in my interpretation...
Characters 9/10 They each seemed pretty interesting...but the roles of some of the characters made you get the feeling at times that they did not belong there. The only thing that bonded most of them was the orphanage...
Story-line 10/10 *Sniffles* Now THIS one brought tears to my eyes! (It was the Laguna/Raine ending that almost made me cry) It was DRAMATIC! Plus the whole Laguna/Raine/Julia/Caraway/& Squall/Rinoa thing was rather complex, but still comprehendable. I only had to play FF8 once to understand. FF7, on the other hand, was CONFUSING! And, believe it or not, FF8 was my first Final Fantasy game, not FF7 (which can probably explain my views of the 'drama'). Therefore you would think FF7 would be easier for me to understand. It took me 2 TIMES to play FF7 AND I STILL had to ask someone else what the hell was happening (yes it was that confusing). Therefore FF8 gets 10/10 for storyline (dramatic+simple)!
Action 10/10 Hee hee...I kinda' liked the field battles in this one...They were all easy. ^.^* The thing is, everyone had a GF to summon, therefore a somewhat equal chance of survival. Plus the GF junctioning thingy doesn't lower HP/MP. Matter of fact, there's no MP at all. There are only draw points which made the game even more fun!
Graphics/Music 9/10 Whoo hoo! So many CG's! Now this one has better graphics than those other PS games I know. But then again, the part which I dislike is when Squall is walking with 2 other people in town and all of a sudden you get tangled up in them. -1 for that problem! (FF7 didn't have that...now that's odd...) As for the music, Nobuo Uematsu is quite possiby the best modern day composer, so no complaints there.
Miscellaneous 10/10 I HATED RINOA! She nagged poor Squall so damned much! That should be reason enough for me to give it -1! But alas that does not affect the gameplay for everyone else so I can't count that. Well lemme' see...I can't really find any faults in anything else (since everything was already listed).
Overall 48/50 (96%) This one was so sad! (It's odd that I would find a romance story sad, yet a story which was meant to be tragic (like FF7) not sad...DRAMA is the major key to that one...). Anywayz you MUST get your hands on it, whether you are a Final Fantasy fan or not!
