The year of the sequel continues. And just like The Matrix Reloaded, this is a bad movie. But the surprising thing is I think this film is actually a tad better than the original. Don’t worry. I’m not saying I like this film. 2 Fast 2 Furious is really stupid. Plus it has some of the worst acting ever. Director John Singleton does however provide a few interesting things to look at, and I’m not talking about all the partially naked attractive women.
I have to say, I’m a little surprised that John Singleton (Boyz N the Hood, Baby Boy) took on this project. But then again, I’m surprised by a lot of his films. Boyz N the Hood and Baby Boy were both pretty solid films, but Shaft and Higher Learning are both really crappy. I still felt that Singleton could do a little better than this though. This film is really bad. But its not really his fault. No one really could have made anything decent with this film. But to his credit, Singleton makes the opening street race scene much more interesting than the average one. Lots of interesting cuts between eyes and machines
and good use of computer graphics make for a rather good scene. But unfortunately this film isn’t just a series of car race scenes. It had to try and make a story out of the film. That was the first in a long series of mistakes.
There is very little worse than combining a really awful script with very poor acting. The film’s star, Paul Walker though is truly living the American Dream. He is the most worthless performer in Hollywood and yet he still manages to make $3 million a movie (His salary for his next film, Timeline). To say that Paul Walker was just reading his lines off cue cards would be a major compliment to his performance. I can’t even describe how bad he really is. But unfortunately this film also combines many other bad performances to go along with Paul Walker’s. The next worse performance belongs to James Remar. Thankfully though he isn’t on screen nearly as much as Walker. But the scene where Remar and Tyrese nearly get into fisticuffs and Walker breaks it up is possibly the worst scene that has ever been put on film. Seriously, I’ve seen bad student films that were better. Well except for one ("We just hook up. It’s not serious." If you’ve seen it, you know what I’m talking about). What’s really kind of surprising though is that Tyrese is quite good, despite all the crap around him. He’s very funny and very interesting to watch. I hear that he was also good in the other
John Singleton film he was in, Baby Boy. Every other actor though is crap. And since I don’t pay money just to see attractive ladies in skimpy clothing when I go to the movies, there is nothing here for me at all.
Poor John Singleton. He didn’t deserve a script like this. Frankly, no one did. The fact that the writers received payment for this script is almost as appalling as the shit President Bush gets away with these days. But once again, America has surprised me. This film was the number one movie in the box office its opening weekend. And while I’ll be the first to admit that there is hardly anything in theaters worth watching, I’m willing to go out on a limb and say there are things better than this film that would be a better way to spend one’s time. Please don’t see this movie. I know I did, but I had a free pass, so its okay. There are worse films than this, but let’s stop the tide of crap here.
