C=Corrado P=Passat G=gti vr6 J=Jetta glx vr6 A)Neccessary Items for conversion: 1)Engine/trans/downpipe/cat: c-vr6, p-vr6, g, j 2)Rear subframe: c-vr6, g, j (passat does not work) 3)Front crossmember: p-vr6, c-vr6 (A2 can be used but does not hold up well)(a3 gti, jetta does not work) 4)Radiator: c-vr6 or g60, turbo diesel? Must have outlets on driver's side. (a3 and passat is too tall) 5)Radiator fans: c-vr6, (p-vr6, g, j, yes but you must trim off 1" from bottom of shroud), turbo diesel? 6)Radiator hoses: corrado vr6 fit perfect 7)Pedal cluster: c-vr6 or g60, p-vr6 or 16v i.e.-any car w/02a tranny (a3 gti, jetta will not work) 8)Cable shifter: c-vr6 or g60, p-vr6 or 16v, g, j 9)Air intake: c-vr6 or aftermarket (corrado vr6 p-flow bolts up perfectly to a2 w/vr6) 10)Wiring: pre 1990 cars-splice in vr6 engine harness. 1990-92 a2's plug in vr6 engine harness but use 86-89 16v cluster spliced in for functional tach and adjust. If using the a2 cluster, use corrado g60 speedo cable to run a2 speedo. 11)Exhaust: custom bent or (highly recommended for the $) techtonics 2.5" B)Optional Items: 1)Vr6 power steering: c, p, g, j All racks work fine. g,j,p resorvoir must be swapped for a2/corrado resovoir, and a2 low pressure line makes a better fit than g,j,p metal pre-bent line. 2)A/C: Corrado vr6 or custom make a2 lines to fit vr6 compressor and use either r12 or 134a 3)ABS: master unit from c-vr6 or g60, p-vr6 4)5-lug brakes/suspension/drive axles/rear axle: c, p, g, j- if you're going to use it, use it all. vr6 axles, tie-rods, and control arms are longer so if you're staying with 4-lug, don't use them. I've driven a vr6 a2 w/4-lug and honestly it's really hard to tell any difference. But I definitely recommend 4-wheel discs w/11" fronts either way. 5)Gas tank: g, j, (passat or corrado???) C)Additional Info: A)OBD1(92-95) OR OBD2(95-99)? 1)Advantages to OBD1 a)easy to make tach work in a2 cluster 2)Disadvantages to OBD1 a)some have pricey dist. cap/rotor b)ECU must be socketed for chip c)turbo and super kits not avail. yet 3)Advantages to OBDII a)"smarter ECU"-has more diagnostic abilities b)easy chip instalation c)ready for turbo/supercharger kit 4)Disadvantages to OBDII (only in a2 conversion) a)No tach in a2 cluster D)Modifications to make engine fit: 1) Hammer in passenger side frame rail to clear harmonic balancer &W/P pulley 2) Lower pass. rear motor mount by removing lower "gold/brass colored cup" and turning "black cup" upside down and inserting rubber mount in black cup. 3) Cut SMALL hole in firewall for clutch master cylinder There are pictures of my friends supercharged 1992 gti vr6 at http://www.fastenough.com/index.htm
