King Henry VIII was a lawn bowler, he banned the game for those who were not wealthy. Stringers, Arrowhead makers, Bowyers and Fletchers were spending more time at recreational events than doing their trade. He forbid anyone to play the game in open space outside of his garden or orchard. |
While the older crowd participated in lawn bowles and billiards, the young loved playing hoodman blind, blindmanís bluff, and hide and seek. |
BOCCE was a popular game played in the Elizabethan Era. It was like bowling, but was played on a lawn. |
