Thought for the Day

(It's true, I can only come up with one thought per day. That's my limit)

Wednesday 10 July 2002 "Thanks to global warming, my garden is going to be just fine"
I purchased a Satsuma mandarin tree from Home Depot a couple weeks ago. When I was in line at the check stand, the man who was working at me flashed me a gold smile (literally) and asked if I lived around here.
"Yes," I replied.
"I don't think this plant is going to make it. There's too much fog around here. Several people have bought these plants and complained that they just aren't doing well."
I looked at him rather dubiously, taking in the baggy jeans slung around his lower hips, his gold chain, his mesh shirt. I'm not one for sterotypes, but he really did not look like a gardener. "Um, I'll take my chances," I responded.
It was his turn to look at me rather dubiously. I could hear him mentally tsk tsking. He said aloud, "These plants require a lot of sun. They just can't get it around here."
"Thanks. I guess I'll find out."
He shook his head in a "man these people never listen" fashion, and concluded the transaction.

On the way home, however, I began to take his words to heart. What if he was right? I had been wanting a Satsuman mandarin orange tree for quite some time, and finally yielded to the impulse to purchase one, only to discover that it might not do well at all! However, I had already invested by $29.95, so I might as well see what will happen.

Recently, however, as we have come to have heat wave after heat wave here in the Bay Area, and are experience perhaps one of the most fog free summers ever, I feel that I can relax. Thanks to Bush and crew, our plan to turn North America into a tropical paradise is succeeding nicely, at perhaps a much faster rate than was anticipated. I realize now that I can rest assured. I think my mandarin tree is going to do just fine.

Upcoming Projects (one step at a time)

  • Upgrade my format. Let's face it; this text based format is just way too boring. What about some graphics? Other colours?
  • I need to organize things more interestingly. I guess this is really related to the first item.
  • Some totally cool links:

When I saw this site, I had to say I was totally blown away. It's visually stunning, interactive, allows you to sample their music, and gives you a flavor of what they are all about. How my pathetic my site seems after theirs. Do I dare aspire..?

    Drop me a line!
