Takani Megumi's family was was known for there prestigous acts of the field of medicine. They have been known to treat any patients the same disregarding there social class in the world. A unique feature about the Takani family was that each and every generation study medicine. During the Aizu war Megumi's entire family except herself went to war to treat the wounded. As a result of this megumi's father was killed and she was seperated from her mother and two brothers. Now Megumi was left to fend for herself in the real world. At age 17 Megumi became an assistant doctor to someone. Apparently this doctor was working for Kanryuu in making opium. The doctor was making a new brand of opium that only needed half the ingredients and the doctor was killed by Kanryuu trying to obtain the opium. Now megumi was forced to make this opium though she would rather die than making this opium she had a dream which became her hope that one day she will be reunited with her long lost family she once knew.
Megumi isn't one of my favorite characters so I don't have much to say about her. She is a key role to the Kenshin-gumi since she is the one that heals and tends to all the wounds that the Kenshin-gumi face. Without her Sanosuke and Kenshin would have died in the JupunGatana head quarters due to wounds. She is also used for comedic relief with Yahiko and Kaoru which is quite funny to see. Megumi is much more than a healer and a source of comedy. She is very important to in driving Kaoru towards Kenshin. She speaks wise words whenever the oppurtunity is given to her. .
