WWE profile:

A former World Champion, Rick Rude joined up with D-Generation X in late 1997 as the rebel group’s “insurance policy”. In his brief time with DX, Rude served as a bodyguard for Shawn Michaels and Triple H, patrolling the ringside area and interfering in his associates’ matches whenever the opportunity presented itself.

Because of his extensive experience, Rude was also able to serve as a consultant of sorts to the members of DX. With Rude in the mix, D-Generation X was able to make a name for itself as the premier group in sports-entertainment.
