The Manchurians have invaded China and overthrown the Ming dynasty. They have formed the Ching dynasty. However, the people are not content of being subjects under the Ching. He orders for the return of Chau The Hien (Steven Ma) and Truong Binh Cong Chua (Charmaine Sheh). They will be given a festive and grand wedding and the whole city will be celebrating their marriage. That night, fireworks lit the sky, while Chau The Hien (Steven) and Truong Binh Cong Chua (Charmaine) celebrated their wedding. They poured poison into their wine cups, while looking deeply into each others eyes as they remembered all of the hardships that they have gone through to be together. They drink the poison and....
Ten years earlier....
Chau The Hien (Steven) and Truong Binh Cong Chua (Charmaine) were still little kids and best friends. As days passed by, their friendship grew deeper and deeper as they started to fall in love. Truong Binh (Charmaine) is always respectful and caring. A lot of people adored her. Chiu Nhan Cong Chua (Sonija Kwok) is Truong Binh Cong Chua's older sister and is really selfish. She would get mad if the other children wouldn't listen to her since she is the oldest princess of them all. Their mother, Chau Hau (Maggie Siu) has once been accused by Dien Phi (Jay Lau) saying that she killed her new born son and was kicked out of the palace with Chiu Nhan Cong Chua (Sonija). Truong Binh Cong Chua (Charmaine) wanted to follow her mother, so she also leaves the palace to go to lan cung. Since then, Chau The Hien (Steven) and Truong Binh Cong Chua (Charmaine) were seperated. Chau The Hien also had to go to another place faraway. Dien Phi (Jay) told her people to set lan cung on fire. Chau Hau (Maggie) and her two daughters escaped from the fire.
It has been years and Truong Binh Cong Chua (Charmaine), Chau The Hien (Steven), and Chiu Nhan Cong Chua (Sonija) have grown up. Chau Hau (Maggie Siu), Truong Binh (Charmaine), and Chiu Nhan (Sonija) live in a small village. Truong Binh (Charmaine) goes under the name of Chu Winnie and Chiu Nhan (Sonija) goes under the name of Chu Wi Lan. Truong Binh (Charmaine) buys fishes to give to the war place so that they can eat. She tries and helps the family out by finding money to past the days, while Chiu Nhan (Sonija) takes dancing lessons.
Later, Truong Binh (Charmaine) goes to work at a place where they make and produce cannons. On her way there, she meets Thanh Khanh (Michael Tong), who is very playful and the son of the owner who produces cannons. After he met Truong Binh (Charmaine), he fell in love with her and could go crazy for her. He would try to do anything for her to make her happy.
She soon arrives at the place where they make and produce cannons and meets Chau The Hien (Steven). Both of them don't recognize each other at first. But later, Truong Binh (Charmaine) finds out that Chau Tham Su is The Hien (Steven), her long lost friend. She wants to tell him that she is Truong Binh Cong Chua (Charmaine), but she knows that if she does, Dien Phi might find people to kill her and her family, so she doesn't tell him. Later on, The Hien (Steven) goes to a wishing tree. He sees Truong Binh's wish on a paper and he soon found out who she really was. At first, she regrets that she is not Truong Binh.
Meanwhile, other things have happened in the palace, which made Thai Hau (mother of the king) worried that they have accused Chau Hau (Maggie) about the death of Dien Phi's son. They arranged for the guards to find out where Chau Hau's family lives. The next day after Truong Binh (Charmaine) and The Hien (Steven) recognized each other, Truong Binh goes home to find out if her family is ok becuase she was attacked on the day that The Hien (Steven) and Truong Binh (Charmaine) recognized each other. She goes home and finds a lot of guards all around her house. She finds out that the guards want to arrange for them to come back to the palace. They sit on carriages as they were on there way back to the palace and The Hien (Steven) and Truong Binh (Charmaine) were again seperated.
Soon, The Hien (Steven) and Thanh Khanh (Michael) have made an acheivement by destroying the bombs. Minh Sung Trinh (Moses Chan) arranges for them to go into the palace. The Hien (Steven) and Thanh Khanh (Michael) were ordered to stay in the palace and help teach the prince, princesses, and etc. Truong Binh Cong Chua (Charmaine) and Chau The Hien (Steven) have reunited once again and get to see one another often. Although, Thai Hau (mother of the king) makes Truong Binh (Charmaine) help at the cheff place due to the fact that Chiu Nhan Cong Chua (Sonija) was jealous and talked about Truong Binh (Charmaine), who was always loved. After those three months that she had to help in the cooking place of the palace, Truong Binh (Charmaine) gets to learn at the place where The Hien (Steven) and Thanh Khanh (Michael) teaches. The Hien (Steven) and Truong Binh (Charmaine) sees each other every day and their love for one another grows even deeper. Although, they know that they wouldn't end up together after all, since The Hien (Steven) and Ly Ngoc Nhan (Annie Man) were already engaged. The Hien (Steven) and Truong Binh (Charmaine) only kept their love for each other inside.
A few days before Chau The Hien (Steven) and Ly Ngoc Nhan's (Annie) wedding, Ngoc Nhan (Annie) gets killed by Dien Phi (Jay) on accident because Ngoc Nhan (Annie) knows the secret about how Chau Hau (Maggie) was accused by Dien Phi (Jay). She also took a letter that tells about what really happened from her father's room one night. Chiu Nhan (Sonija) comes in after Dien Phi (Jay) accidently kills Ngoc Nhan (Annie) and sees what happens. Dien Phi (Jay) tells her to carry Ngoc Nhan's (Annie) body and throw it down the water in the palace. Chiu Nhan (Sonija) brings her to there and accidently lets her diamond string, which Truong Binh (Charmaine) and she has, fell into the water with Ngoc Nhan (Annie). She goes home and fibs to Truong Binh (Charmaine) about what she did. When the people who discovers what happened came, Truong Binh (Charmaine) says that it is hers and she did the whole thing, without knowing the truth about Ngoc Nhan's (Annie) death.
Meanwhile, Chiu Nhan (Sonija) and Thanh Bao Luan have started sending love letters to each other. They haven't known each other at all. Soon, they finally met and Chiu Nhan (Sonija) didn't like him at all. Although, Thanh Bao Luan liked her a lot. One day, she told him that Truong Binh (Charmaine) liked and admired him since long. Chiu Nhan (Sonija) pushes Truong Binh (Charmaine) to Thanh Bao Luan. Even though Truong Binh (Charmaine) was in jail, Chiu Nhan (Sonija) gives the guards money to take her out and introduce her to Thanh Bao Luan. He started to really like her.
Soon, Minh Sung Trinh (Moses Chan) chose a day for Truong Binh (Charmaine) to choose a groom. But in his mind, he already chose Thanh Bao Luon. On the day of the choosing the groom, Minh Sung Trinh (Moses Chan) asks the three who have been picked a question about what they can do you win the war. The Hien (Steven) got picked. Thanh Bao Luon was really mad. Since he has three out of twelve armies, Minh Sung Trinh (Moses) also knows that Chiu Nhan (Sonija) and Thanh Bao Luan sent each other notes and have seen each other before so he lets them marry at the war place although Chiu Nhan (Sonija) didn't want to.
Chiu Nhan (Sonija) finally got really angry. She tries to kill Truong Binh (Charmaine), but it doesn't work. Thanh Khanh (Michael) was on his way to back to the company where they produce cannons and he also brought Chiu Nhan (Sonija) with him. She pretends that he was trying to rape her and Thanh Bao Luan hits him and so Thanh Khanh (Michael) couldn't walk as normal anymore.
Soon, The Hien (Steven) was ordered to guard the palace. The Ming Dinasty was no longer a palace. It was about to fall apart. The Hien (Steven) finds Chiu Nhan (Sonija) and she stays by his side all the time.
The Manchurians were about to break into the palace. Everyone was all worried. But sooner, they decided to break up and meet at another place so that they can work up the Ming Dynasty again and attack the Machurians. On the way, Minh Sung Trinh (Moses) gets caught and is hung. Soon enough, Chiu Nhan (Sonija) sells her country and is under the Manchurians. She pretends to be as usual and checks on what her mother does. Later, everyone knows that she sold her own country and didn't like her anymore. She was put in jail. On the day of The Hien (Steven) and Truong Binh's wedding, Chiu Nhan (Sonija) pretends to hang herself up and die. Her mother quickly comes to see her. Chiu Nhan (Sonija) takes a gun out and shoots her mother. But nobody knows the truth of it.
The Ming Dynasty has soon fallen apart. The Hien (Steven) and Truong Binh (Charmaine) didn't want their people to get hurt, so they agreed with the Manchurians to get married, which they have always wanted. Therefore, they can calm down the people. As it has been said above, they drank poison and pretended to die on the day that they got married. Later on, they became villagers. Truong Binh (Charmaine) is pregnant with The Hien (Steven), while Thanh Khanh (Michael) also lives with them and would be the godfather of the baby. After the six times of seperation, The Hien (Steven) and Truong Binh (Charmaine) finally get to live with one another.
