Buca di Beppo's - March 8 2003

  • This time, we went to the fun Buca di Beppo's Italian restaurant in Birmingham, Michigan.  What a blast!  We had:
  • Appetizer: Fried Calamari - oh, so good
  • Appetizer: Garlic Bread - yum
  • Appetizer: Marinara Pizza - had to eat at least one
  • Salad: Di Beppo "1893" Salad - yeah, baby
  • Entree: Quatro al Forno ("four to the furnace") - an awesome special dish with 4 different types of pastas
  • Entree: Veal Marsala with Fresh Mushrooms - really good
  • Entree: Chicken with Lemon
  • Dessert: Chocolate Cannoli - not as good as it sounded
  • Dessert: Tiramisu - simply the best
  • Dessert: Buca Bread Pudding Caramello - some liked it, some didn't
  • Dessert: Tortoni - good
  • Drink: Chianti 3-Liter - gone!
We sat at the Kitchen Table, which is a table in a nook in the kitchen (the rest of the 400 guests sat downstairs in the dining area).  We got a chance to see all the dishes as they walked past us, and we had a lot of fun talking to the chef, cooks, and wait staff.  Our waiter, Jerry, we had a surreal experience with.  Here he is (click picture for a larger image):

He's a British chap, high energy (as you can see!).  He took our appetizer order, and as we waited & ate, we made up our minds what we wanted to order.  When he came, we thought he would take our order, but the first thing he did was put the first dish we wanted on the table.  He came back shortly with 2 more dishes we ordered (actually, the second was Chicken Marsala in stead of Veal).  He was about to get the fourth, then we stopped him and said we hadn't ordered yet.  You should have seen the look on his face!  After checking all the other restaurant orders, there were none even close to what we wanted, so we didn't get anyone else's.

He took this lovely picture of our table; you can tell we had fun!
