Cheap and effective alternitive to a FIPK
The issue:
One of the first and relitivly common upgrades on the Supra is the intake...
By eliminating the stock airbox and restrictive filter we allow the engine to breath better and thus makeing way for more boost and more power
Often replaced with an open air element in the engine bay this modification has two major drawbacks as I see it

#1. Expence... ranging from ~$95 USD to $200+ these units are not all that much bang for your hard earned buck..

#2. They are all open air in the engine bay, thus suck in hot engine air.. (there are ways around this, but most are half ass @ best..

What I am pressenting below is not the ideal sullution, but it is inexpenssive and effective...

My costs:
$1.60 cunk of sheat steal that was left over for IC brackets..
$0   2' of 3" exaust pipe from shop (scrap)
$3.46  5"x6" sheat of rubber gasket material
$40  3" in by 5" diamiter by 9" long K&N filter shipped to my door
4+ hours of my time
$0 got a guy to weld the pipe on for free
Total : ~$45 +4 hours

What I did:
I made a flat adapter to bolt onto the AFM... four holes that ine up with the mounting holes and One big hole (3") for the pipe...
~1.5hours of cutting and grinding

I got a guy to weld the pipe into the  bracket I made...

Painted the thing black

Got some bolts (6m) and cut the gasket to fit...

I had to cut the body were the airbox snorkle used to be, but I had done this earlier for a SCAM...

Bolted the pipe with adapter to the afm...

Attached the Filter to the pipe (tricky)

Put it all back together... (I also rotated the afm and had to remove the xtock bracket...

I knew the headlight surround was going to hit the filter (I should have gotten the 45 deg. off axial filter), so I ground it down a little .. and now it is fine, and you can just bairly tell.. (they are only up @ night when it's dark right :-)  )

Take a look @ the pictures and see what you think, I am fairly satisfied...

Things I would have done differantly:

Use a bigger/ bent  pipe: The 3" pipe is 3" OD, so the interior is not all that big, and does not compleatly cover the AFM opening, thus will hamper performance, the filters come in many sizes, I would say get a 4" 45 deg off axial 7->9" unit.. look on there websight for details..
another mption is to get a 4" mandrel bent peice, that angles down to avoid the headlight.. there is space down there ... but the stock IC pipeing may get in they way, I have a diiferant IC pipeing setup, so it's not an issue..

like I said, this is not for everyone it's more a study than anything.. and I made money off of it, I sold my FIPK for $115 and got this for ~$50...
