Their album went triple platinum in New Zealand, they’ve had five huge radio hits their album’s been in the charts in New Zealand for 17 weeks; they’re everyone’s favourite stocking filler, not that they haven’t sold enough already. They are Zed and in the studio with me now are Andy and Nathan. Hey guys
Jacqui: I like that, everyone’s
favourite stocking filler. Like you wake up and they’ll be in your
stocking.
Nathan: BOO!
Jacqui: if only
Andy: its not really very
stocking - friendly is it?
Jacqui: what?
Andy: a CD shape
Jacqui: I was thinking of
you personally
Andy: oh, that’s even worse
Jacqui: you’ve got some
big news for us
Nathan: we’ve got some extremely
exciting news
Jacqui: tell us all about
it
Andy: well its just been
released to the press and the public that we’ve been signed to an American
label
*claps all around from everyone*
Dominic: and let us know
the calibre, who are some of the other bands on the label?
Nathan: okay, we’ve got
people like, U2, Limp bizkit, emimem,
Andy: nine inch nails
Nathan: then there’s people
like Ronan Keating, and it tails off
Dominic: what is it like
for you then, to be in the same stables as them then?
Nathan: its kinda scary
for me as a song writer its like the game is on now, the songs we’re doing
we’ve gotta compete with everyone. We’re gonna go to the Christmas
party and they’re gonna be there and they’re gonna laugh, or they’re not
gonna laugh, you gotta kinda *does some little boxing move*
Jacqui: you can’t think
of it like that. I think its really wonderful. And on behalf of New
Zealand and behalf of Dominic I say well done. Has it changed you?
This sudden rise to fame?
Nathan: I hope not
Andy: No not yet.
(its around this time where Andy had been smoothing his hair before and
now there is one single, lonely dreadlock sticking out on an angle from
is head.)
Jacqui: well how do you
know? Andy, do you think its changed Nathan? And Nathan do you think its
changed Andy?
Nathan: (to Andy) do I look
different?
Andy: no, maybe we’re more
paranoid than usual, you know walking down the street
Jacqui: people stare at
you a bit more
Dominic: do you think that
now you guys are gonna look at it as there’s pressure or what a great opportunity
cos there’s two different ways you can go. What road do you think
your gonna take?
Nathan: oh, I think we’re
always gonna be looking at it positively. Its such a huge opportunity.
Hardly anyone ever gets that. Especially coming out of New Zealand
and um we wanna take it and just go for it.
Jacqui: absolutely. And
what about Japan? I hear you’re doing some magical things over in Japan
too.
Nathan: yep, we’ve been
signed to Japan as well. There’s actually a lot of countries. We
haven’t actually got the full list yet.
Andy: shall we try?
Nathan: there’s like Italy
Andy: Thailand
Nathan: Malaysia?
Andy: Singapore. Holland?
Jacqui: this is really amazing.
Andy: Denmark
Jacqui: we’re very honoured
that you’re gonna play for us.
Next thing Zed did was play Come on Down
Now its time for us to quiz
the guys of Zed and let you get in their heads a bit better
There’s gonna be team number
one which is gonna be you two (hands a card with TV One logo to Nathan
and Ben) and you two are gonna be team number two (hands a card with TV
Two logo to Age and Andy)
Nathan; I’ve seen these
somewhere before
Age: did you copy this logo?
Jacqui: Team one I’m a passionfruit
smoothie mainly smooth and fruity and consistent with the occasional hard
bit. Dominic, he’s long and cool and he’s a big hit in the clubs,
he’s water. These are our two drinks. If you were a drink,
what would you be and why?
Nath and Ben look at each
other.
Nathan: do you know what
you’d be?
Ben: Me personally I think
I’d be, I’d have to be Lindauer, a glass of Lindauer. *Nathan seems to
be dancing with the TV One logo*
Nathan: Classy!!
Ben: *turns to Nathan* because
it’s not that classy. It’s sweet, its cheap and it does the job
Nathan: I think I’d be Jungle
Juice *a lot of laughter*
Ben: what the hell is jungle
juice?
Nathan: a lot of people
often call me a monkey. I am not too happy about that, but I accept
it, its okay.
Jacqui: fair enough we’ll
take it over to team two, different question
Age: oh, I wanted that question
Jacqui: I’m afraid you can’t
have that question. If the other members of the group were girls -
Age: oh have we got that
question!
Jacqui: which one of the
others would you wanna go out with and why?
Andy: I don’t really wanna
think like that
Jacqui: well I think you
should, you should open your mind. You’re an international group
and you have to broaden your horizons.
Andy: I would say Nathan.
Cos I don’t think he’d walk all over me
Jacqui: nice, I’m liking
that a lot
Andy: mind you look at his
shoes
Jacqui: Adrian?
Age: well its a tough choice,
but I probably go with Nathan
Ben: oh fu-
Nathan: *leans over to Ben*
sorry mate, I’m the best girl!
Age: Ben, think of what
I’m saying, I don’t find you attractive
Ben; oh cheers mate *points
to Nathan* says something to Age indicating does he find Nathan attractive
then, but you can’t hear it cos Dominic was talking.
Then they played ‘Gloriafilia" which was the most requested song. During the part where they sing ‘sipping wine around her table’ it looks like someone was pulling on Ben’s shirt. *How close were you sitting to him Saz?!*
I have an edited version of ‘Space’ and the next shot I get is Fran, Aims and Saz pulling cheesy-ass grins and waving to the camera. Luvly.
Then we seem to have missed the front of the next few questions and start at:
Jacqui: toothpaste part two.
Do you brush in the shower or the sink?
Age: sink
Andy: sink
Jacqui: (to team one) music
now. MC Hammer or Vanilla Ice?
Ben: hammer
Nathan: MC Hammer, alright
Jacqui: is it a trouser
thing that swayed you?
Ben: um, the miming thing
Nathan: yeah, the black
and the rapping, yeah
Jacqui: team two, peanut
butter, we’re talking crunchy or smooth?
Andy: Crunchy
Age: yep
Jacqui: in truebliss, Erika
or Carly?
Nathan: that’s tough
Ben: that’s a good question
Dominic: we need an answer
Ben: yeah I think I’d have
to go with Erika
*Nathan coughs something
behind his hand but I couldn’t hear it
Jacqui: team two, kissing,
tongue or no tongue *a lot of laughter*
Nathan: hey, that’s my sister
you’re talking about!
Jacqui: oh, information!
Ben: hang on, you wanted
to go out with him if he was a girl, so you’d have the whole family
Dominic: we’ve got some
serious issues to work out here
Jacqui: hang on, so you’re
going out with Nathan’s sister?
Age: maybe
Nathan: you never kiss her
though do you?
Age: *shakes head* no
Dominic: its all about holding
hands and hugs
Jacqui: *to age* no tongue
for you, in fact no kissing at all, just holding hands and talking about
politics.
Age: *points to Andy* what
about him?
Andy: *acts all innocent*
I’ve forgotten the question
Age: oh come on!
Andy: its gotta be tongue
Jacqui: team one, Tv presenters,
Richard and Judy or Carol and John?
Nathan: Richard and Judy
Ben: yeah
Jacqui: Richard and Judy,
good cos you’re on the right network here. Team two, music TV presenters,
me or Dominic?
Age: I’m closer to Dominic
but I think you look better with the nose
Andy: I’d say it would have
to be Dom cos he’s a mighty fine guitarist.
They played the new Coldplay video and when it goes back the guys are all standing with their instruments.
Dominic: Are you inspired
by bands like that, cos they’re the same age as you?
Nathan: definitely
Ben says something but you
can’t hear him cos he talks to Dominic not to the microphone - I think
it was something like ‘they're amazing,"
Nathan: that album for the
age, its incredible
Dominic: listen now, ( ha
ha, our grandma says ‘listen now’ at the beginning of sentances all the
time and we laugh about it - anyways) this song you’re gonna play for us
now, you gonna release it as a single?
Nathan: yep, it will be
the next single after come on down
Dominic: and um, when will
we expect to have that in the shops?
Nathan: it will be around
the end of summer
Then they played Drivers
Side. At this stage Andy and Ben are wearing the Sparkle Girl’s headbands.
The last thing they did
was ‘Parklife’ with Jacqui playing tambourine and Dominic playing guitar
with the strap pulled up far too much and the guitar sitting somewhere
around the top of his chest.
Nath’s accent was spot-on
again and him and Adrian are now wearing the headbands.
Dominic and Jacqui then
presented the boys with a bottle of Champagne as a congratulations pressie.
I must say, good show, even though I’m not really a Space person, I generally don’t watch it. Nathan looked very good, I like his hair how he has it now rather than the way he was doing it for the Silencer promotions.
I love deadlines. I
like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by
