Leads into it by Lana and
Knickers talking about all the guys they have had on this week and how
lucky they are to have 4 in the studio today. Lana says she's "a bit happy
about Zed coming in" and " for some reason I'm just a bit perkier about
that." Knickers says there is some big Zed news coming up and that the
boys are going to play live for us.
After playing songs 5 to
2 on the high five thing they start playing that song 'It's raining men'
Knickers: 1,2,3,4
Lana: It's not often we
don't have enough equipment to go around, but we're struggling today
Knickers: Tell ya what,
we are so struggling for microphones, and spare cords and headphones and
stuff because we've got superstars Zed with us today
Lana: We have indeed and
they're actually gonna play very shortly a live song for us which we're
quite excited about
Knickers: You boys alright?
Ya alright there?
Age: We like sharing
Knickers: Good
Age: Yep, it's alright
Knickers: It's all nice
for us to be close isn't it?
Age: Yes. Bonding
Knickers: As long as we
don't, promise we won't sit on your knee when your singing alright?
laughs from the boys
Nathan: Alright
Lana: Can't make many other
promises. Hey, you guys had some very very exciting news in the last week,
we're going to get into that shortly
Knickers: But we just wanted
to tell you that's why we've got you in to play live today, that you're
song Come on Down has been voted number one today on the high noon high
five
lots of yeahs, nices, whoops,
and a thank you from the boys
Lana: This is the peoples
vote, and also Knickers and I have had something to do with it
laughs from the boys
Lana: We think you're pretty
damn good as well, so if ya don't mind, it's ok isn't it? You'll do that
live for us?
Age: Yeah, I think
Silence
Knickers: Ya alright? Ya
alright? (obviously to diff band members) Awesome. Zed live on ZM
Age: Ready boys?
Nathan: I'm ready
Ben: Just about ready yeah
Andy: Testing (plucks his
guitar, then gives it a strum)
Age: Yeah. 1,2,1,2,3,4...
Then they played a kick
ass live version of Come on Down.
After: Lots of claps and
woohoo's
Knickers: Thank you very
much. Very impressive. That was Zed live, number one on the high noon high
five and we'll be back with them soon
Ads
Knickers: We're joined by
the boys from Zed, all four of them, Ben, Nathan, Adrian, and Andy. Welcome
boys.
Nathan: Thank you
Age: Thank you for having
us here
Andy: Hello
Ben????
Lana: For some reason Adrian
and Andy have been given todays head microphones, is that what we're calling
it today?
Age: We might be the least
partied out. Are we? Oh yea. I don't know. Yeah
Andy: Maybe, maybe
Knickers: I think I heard
a rumour that Ben has had a big night. Is that right?
Age: Yes, we've had rumours
that you've had a big night as well though so...
Background laughs
Ben: We can hear it right
now
Andy: Yeah, yeah, we can
hear it
More laughs...I think they
are talking about Knickers croaky voice
Knickers: Hey, um, so Adrian
and Andy will be chatting to us today, I guess ya have to share your media
duties as you're so popular these days boys
Age: Yeah
Andy: Mmm, it seems that
way
Lana: That's really cool.
I must say, that not only being band members you guys are also part time
santas. Down in Chch last week read that you gave a young chap a scooter
who'd had it nicked and he'd been beaten up
Andy: Yup, that's right.
A young chap got beaten up and his scooter was stolen and it was signed
by all of us, so, Universal kindly donated a new scooter which we signed
and sent down to him
Knickers: So your good Samaritans
as well
Andy: Yeah
Knickers: Hey guys the tour
that you just did through NZ recently, that was a massive sell out for
you wasn't it?
Age: That was great. A lot
of fun as well
Knickers: And that was on
the back of Silencer the debut and that's been huge as well
Age: And we're coming back
for another tour next year I think, so
Knickers: Awesome
Lana: That's if your here
next year, we've just had a bit of news over the old press release that
you guys have actually just been signed up by an American label
Age: Dundununundunda
Andy: Dundununundunda
Age: Swallowed up, yep
Lana: Which is kinda unheard
of, normally there's a generic release but you guys have actually been
hand-picked by the label
Age: They were fighting
Knickers: Yeah, we hear
they've been squabbling over you, two of the biggest labels in the States.
Can you just tell us what's going on, whats the goss?
Age: Well, there's a label,
Interscope, in the States, which holds the likes of...
Andy: Marilyn Manson
Age: U2, Limp Bizkit
Everyone starts throwing
names around
Age: We won't name everyone
Lana: Smash Mouth, The Blood
Hound Gang
Age: Yeah all of those
Lana: Nine Inch Nails
Nathan: It goes on and on
Age: And the international
man came over and he thought (puts on a voice) oh these guys are, they're
alright, yep, we'll sign them up and make them big in the States, so...
Andy: So
Knickers: And did they spy
you last year at the Big Day Out?
Age: They didn't actually
see us, they heard us, coz there were too many people and they couldn't
get up, but
Lana: Well that's the best
way to be isn't it, when they can't possibly get close to the stage
Age: Yeah (laughs) That's
cool
Knickers: Hey, lets face
it, it's not like they're not gonna like the look of you because NZ seems
to have taken you to their hearts, especially the girls
Age: Oh, easy on the eye
they say, but I don't know
Lana: Nathan walked in and
I said, look I remember you, not that this is, you're in the Cleo, which
is fantastic, you know, who would have thought you'd end up in the Cleo?
Laughs from the boys
Nathan: Yeah I know, I wouldn't
have a clue
Knickers: Were you alright
with that Nathan? When you got in the Cleo thing, coz all the girls, you
know, they like to look
More laughs
Nathan: But they didn't
make me take my top off
Age: Funny that aye
Knickers: Ok, so what's
happening with the American deal? Are ya gonna be moving over there?
Age: Well, it looks like
we're gonna be releasing in March
Andy: Yep, in March, and
we have to go over and back it up
Age: Which we want to do
Andy: And play showcases,
concerts, and just get the name out. Start all over
Knickers: When you say back
it up, does that involve a huge amount of promotional stuff, like you've
done here in NZ?
Andy: Uh-huh, exactly the
same, but a lot more of it
Lana: Except about a million
times fold
Age: 250 million people
instead of 4 million people so
Lana: Really exciting. I
think you're kinda a bit understated about it, this is a huge thing, coz
it's only really happened to a couple of other bands out of NZ, like Crowded
House, and Bic Runga
Lots of yeahs
Knickers: It's awesome,
you're very low key, you're just not jumping out of you skin?
Age: Yeah, well
Andy: Yeah
Age: Take one day at a time
and, ya know
Nathan: It's still sinking
in
Andy: Yeah, it's abit of
a shock
Knickers: And that news
is just been released today of course wasn't it? So we've got the exclusive,
you've come in to tell the girls
Laughs from boys
Age: Wow
Andy: Pretty much
Knickers: Awesome stuff
Ads
Someone in background "ahhhh"
and lots of laughing
Knickers: You alright there?
Nathan: I hope nobody heard
what Andy just said
Age: You wanna share the
joke dude?
Knickers: Was that a joke?
Andy: Yeah it was actually
Age: Do ya want everyone
to hear what you just said Andy...no
Andy: Not particularly
More laughing
Knickers: Um, your album
went platinum after one week in NZ, you've now been signed to an American
label, is it the same album that gets released in the States?
Andy: Yeah
Age: As far as we know
Andy: They might want to
remix a track or two but it's the same ingredients, the same deal
Nathan: And they'll probably
want to re-package it and all that sort of thing as well
Andy: Yeah, new pictures,
new photos. Updated I guess coz we'll look a little bit different
Age: but the good thing
about Interscope, which is the label, is that they do like the package
as you are, they don't sort of want to form you
Knickers: Of course, so
you might get some remixing done on some of your songs over there in the
States?
Age: Yeah, well the head
of Interscope is Jimmy Ivine (don't know about spelling), who produced
'Rattle and Humm' for U2, so
Lana: You don't mind
Laughs from the boys
Nathan: No problem
Age: No, there is a creative
guru at the head which is really cool, not just a bean counter (haha, really
not sure if he said 'bean counter' or something else)
Lana: So how long have you
guys been together? When did the band establish itself?
Age: 5 years, but Andy,
how long have you been with us?
Andy: ooooh, it will be
a year in March so
Knickers: Yeah, you're the
newest Andy
Andy: Yes
Knickers: And, we heard
that you were the popular one for awhile, all the girls were hot for you
Laughs from the boys
Andy: ahhh, you know, the
fresh face always seems to stick out
Knickers: It is a big deal
this album thing, I'm just still amazed by this list of people that will
be on the same label as you...The Blood Hound Gang, Smash Mouth, Sting,
Eminem, Limp Bizkit, Beck, Nine Inch Nails...when you started out 5 years
ago in high school did you ever imagine that this would happen?
Age: No. It's quite daunting
really, knowing that Marilyn Manson might actually know who we are
Laughs from the boys
Lana: A lot of hard work
made out going to the States. The other news is that Japan has just embraced
you as well. So you're talking about a mass market there.
Age: (puts on funny Japanese
voice) This is true, yeah
Lana: Second to none for
CD buying
Andy: Oh, it will just be
massive. They're insane. (haha, what a nice thing to say Andy!)
Age: Japan will be fun
Andy: Those people, they
just buy, buy, buy
Nathan: Yup
Andy: You go to concerts
and they just clap very politely
Knickers: Do the girls let
their hair down over there in Japan? Are they up for it?
Nathan: I reckon they will
be
Andy: Yes
Nathan: They better be (said
in joke threatening voice)
Knickers: Ok, lets talk
about the UK just quickly. They're pretty impressed with you there, and
you will be doing some UK tours?
Age: Hopefully we will be
able to get our foot in the door to some festivals, um, and then take it
from there. We've got agents working for us over there.
Knickers: And those agents
are also working for Coldplay, Gomez, Groove Amarda, and now Zed
Age: And now Zed
Nathan: They're called (something
I couldn't catch) which are quite a reputable organisation, so it's really
good to be able to get on board with them
Knickers: Awesome
Lana: And what about leaving
NZ behind? Any worries there, are ya just read to move on?
Andy: Yeah I think we've
saturated ourselves here. You can only do so much, and, you know, we know
where we're from, and we won't forget where we're from
Lana: And what about Australia,
of course they're our next door neighbours
Age: They'll get one week
of our time
Lana: Yeah, you'll bypass
them completely
Knickers: You'll do a stop
over on the way aye?
Age: Yeah
Lana: I suppose if you make
it big in the States everybody will find out about you anyway
Age: We'll follow back to
Australia probably
Andy: If we stay too long
they'll claim us, so, a week's long enough
Knickers: Do you think that
is the big thing musically, coz I know a lot of NZ artists struggle with
this, do you think you've got to make it in the States before you can make
the world?
Age: Noooo, because a lot
of bands that make it elsewhere massively find it hard to crack the States,
so it's probably best to come from the inside and then move out. A lot
of UK bands, ya know, like Robbie Williams find it hard. He's sort of nobody
in the States, so, I think we're doing it the right way
Lana: We think you're doing
it the right way. We think what you're doing is just fine
Knickers: Good stuff guys,
obviously the girls and boys of NZ will miss you greatly when you go but
I'm sure you'll be back
Nathan: Oh yeah, we will
be
Knickers: And keep us posted
on your news from the States alright?
Nathan: will do
Andy: Sure
Knickers: We'll see you
in a newer, flashier music video
Laughs from the boys
