Whats New For '77- All new model shares GM's new downsized B-body platform. Despite losing nearly a foot in length, The new model actually has more interior space than in 1976. Front-end styling was similar to that of the previous model year. Except that each of the four grille sections were now composed of thin horizontal strips. Rectangular quad headlamps were located above matching quad park/turn lamps. No wraparound side markers were used. 455 engine is no longer offered making the new 403(6.6 liter) V8 the top offering. 3.8 V6 was standard.
Biggest News- Pillerless hardtops are no longer available. Lineup consists of Town Sedan and new Pillered Coupe, plus Royale versions of each.

Identifying a '77- 1977 Delta 88's will appear identical to '78's, except that the grille on '77's will consist of two vertical rectangles on each side of the center division as in '76, while grilles on '78's will consist of three horizontal rectangles stacked on top of each other on both sides. Taillamps are also exclusive to this model year. They are wide horizontal rectangles which extend to the license plate opening with backup lamps located at the quarter panel tips.
