Oldsmobile Silhouette

1990

Oldsmobile introduced its first minivan in 1990. It was the most upscale model of GM's new trio of front drive vand introduced that year. The plastic bodied mini-van had room for seven passengers in its leather lined interior. Power came from the corperate 3.1 V-6 which produced a measely 120 horsepower.

1991

Since it was launched only one model year earlier, Oldsmobile left the Silhouette unchanged for 1991.

1992

The new and more powerful 3800 V-6 took its place as the top line powerplant. ABS as well as a larger wheel and tire combination became standard. A sunroof, keyless entry and rear climate controls were newly available options.

1993

The Silhouette had a new look for 1993 thanks to new front and rear facias as well as new alloy wheels. The 3800 was retuned to produce even more horsepower than for 1992.

1994

A drivers side airbagbecame standard equipment for '94. The industry first power sliding door was available for all three GM minivans. A third brakelight was added per government edict. Traction control and integrated child seats made for additions to the options list.

1995

The previously standard 3.1 V-6 disappears leaving the 3800 as the sole powerplant choice.

1996

Only one year after becoming standard equipment, the 3800 V-6 is banished. The new powerplant is the more powerful yet noisier 3.4 V-6.

1997

The Silhouette experienced its first major redesign, moving to an all steel skin from its previous plastic body. There are now three trim levels and two lengths to choose from. Duel sliding rear doors are available on long wheelbase models. Powertrain carried over from the previous model year.

1998

Eight passenger seating was added as an option for long wheelbase models. The wheel design was changed slightly,the grill openings were now trimmed in chrome and side airbags mede as standard equipment
