Gunner has a squat (even for a dwarf) build with deep red coloured hair and beard. He could quite easily be referred to as a typical dwarf at first glance. He has pale blue eyes which shine out from his dark complexion and flowing mane, giving him a piercing but intelligent gaze. On his face and arms he sports celtic style tattoos and often wears beads or feathers tied throughout his hair. This raw and brutal appearance is a stark contrast to the intelligent and considerate manner in which he speaks.
Gunner usually wears a lined coat or flack jacket with pockets stuffed full of gadgets, pieces of electronic hardware or just knick knacks that he found interesting. His weapon of choice is a Colt Man hunter which sits in a holster attached to his left leg, he knows he is not the most proficient fighter in the known world, but can quite often bluff his way out of trouble situations.
Gunner enjoys life, even when stuck in a sewer, up to his knees in drek and hunting some god-forsaken paracritter. One of his greatest assets is his curiosity, Gunner loves a challenge and will not rest until he has discovered the answer to his problem. He is extremely dedicated to finding solutions, whether they be the best tactic to defeat a cyberzombie, why the teams target has mysteriously disappeared or what causes his toaster to cook one side faster than the other.
Mor'tohk Gunnerson started his career at The University of Wales in The UK. He spent much time lecturing in fields such as Physics and Forensic Science and following his own interests in various other fields of scientific discovery. His work was the centre of his life, he enjoyed every second he spent with his eager students, the results of his experimentation classes were of legendary status around the campus, often involving the demolition of entire rooms or dangerous exposure to mixes of untested chemicals!
It was during this time that Gunner met with a young pupil called Alex Jeski. Alex seemed interested in similar fields to Gunner and they each enjoyed the others company. Gunner took Alex under his wing and tutored him further in many aspects of science. Alex was far beyond the other members of his class and craved all the information Gunner could teach. As their relationship progressed, Alex became more like a partner to Gunner than a student, each considered the other a friend.
Things progressed in this fashion for many years, although Gunner noticed changes in Alex. As he aged he became more cynical and depressed. Often he witnessed violent outbursts at the state of the world through Alex's eyes. Alex couldn't stand how his research was being held back, how things such as famine and illness plagued the world even though he was sure solutions could be found if only the funds were available. His attitude worsened to the point where Gunner was even contemplating sending him to a specialist, or recommending some form of anti-depressants. But it all was too late, he arrived to work one morning to find the campus barricaded and surrounded by military. Apparently Alex was on the roof, strapped with explosives and demanding an insane amount of money to continue his research. Gunner offered to negotiate with Alex, but the official people on the scene would not allow it.
Negotiations between Alex and the police turned bad, and before Gunner could insist he be allowed to talk to Alex, a Police sniper took him down claiming that he reached for something in his pocket. In the aftermath of the event, officials, police and university heads were looking for someone to blame, Gunner was their target. Claiming that he used classes to teach the building of explosives and his lectures to promote anarchist movements against authority. Even though these allegations seemed absurd to any intelligent individual, the public masses and tabloids latched on to them as gospel. Gunner could do nothing to fight the allegations and knew that any chance of a career was shattered. When the simple allegations started to turn into talks of a lawsuit against Gunner for inciting a revolution, he figured his best hope was to disappear.
Utilizing the name of a shady character acquired from a friend, Gunner managed to find himself on a plane to Seattle, what awaited him was uncertain but he knew his way of life was forever changed.
Arriving a fugitive in America, Gunner immediately took to the shadows, avoiding any brushes with the law or media for a while. As his savings began to diminish (with the help of a large chunk paid out to get here) Gunner soon realized he would need to find work. When you're an illegal immigrant and a fugitive on the run from the law they're aren't too many job opportunities, enter shadowrunning.
