Game Specs
Books: Ideally all
players should at least own, or have access to the Shadowrun 3rd
edition rule book. Other than that, there are no other required
materials. If you would like to use material from other FASA
published sourcebooks, feel free. The only book that I will not allow
is the Shadowrun Companion (See Character Creation below). If you
would like to use Shadowrun material from other sources, please
e-mail me with the details before use.
Character Creation: All characters should be constructed
using the FASA published 3rd edition priority based system found in
the core rulebook. The point based system, as well as the
advantage/disadvantage stats located in the Shadowrun Companion will
not be used in this game. I'm of the mindset that you should take
character quirks by choice, not because they will enable you to up
your skills. (No, this does not mean that you can take a balanced
amount of advantages/disadvantages, so don't ask.)
Turns: For the most part, I will write turns that include
actions for everyone. I will try to send turns at least once a week,
but if I get ambitious, there may be more.
After receiving the e-mail, I will usually wait until I get
replies from all those involved, but if you decide to take a fraggin-
ass-long time, I may skip you and/or do nasty things to your
character. (Note: this rule does not apply to me. I'm the GM. I am
your master. I can be a lazy fragger if I want to.) Overall, I
wouldn't worry about missing your turn. If you are on vacation, sick,
mentally drained, or otherwise too busy to game, just let me know and
I'll work around you. Just make sure that you come back eventually...
please.
If you need examples of play, refer to the
logs, but trust me, it's easy.
Dice Rolling & Other Game Mechanics: I do all of the
rolling. I don't cheat. I only roll once. However, I do reserve the
right to modify the way that these rolls affect your character in
order to better suit the game situation. All GM’s do it, trust
me.
The only time that game mechanics should enter into your e-mails
arise from the use of dice pools. Otherwise simply describe to me, in
stunning detail, what you hope to accomplish with you turn in plain
English.
If you wish to specify the amount of dice used from your dice
pools, make a note of it at the end of the e-mail describing the way,
and the situation, in which the pool applies. Make sure to include
the number of dice you will use for each situation.
This doesn't mean, however, that I won't make use of your pools
otherwise. When making your rolls, I use what dice I think are
reasonable and applicable to the way in which you describe your
actions to me. I only include the self activated pool feature for
those of you who want more exacting control.
Fictional Liberties: When I write turns, I try to cover as
much game time as possible. This convention arises out of the need to
keep the plot line moving. On the other hand, it also means that I
will tend to take certain liberties when detailing the action. For
example, I may maneuver your character around the room, or assume
that you are going to dodge out of the way of the chair that Mr.
Troll threw at you.
But like the fair GM that I am, I grant this power to you also,
within reason. If you tell me that your character grabs a bag of
candy bars while browsing threw the local Stuffer Shack, I'm not
going to gripe about how you didn't ask whether or not those candy
bars were actually there. It’s assumed that those little details
exist. After all, it’s interactive fiction, and you should be able to
craft the story just as much as I do.
The Catch... If at any time I take one of these liberties, and you
don't like it, or you feel that you would rather do something else,
let me know. I won't get everything right, and you need to tell me
when I do. I will fix it.
On a similar note, if you take you creativity too far, I will lay
the smack down on you, while waving my finger, "NO!"
