Sea Maiden

A myth, a legend, a sailor's dream

Is she actually real, or a fabled scheme

Neptune's daughter, is Mermaid her name

What is her purpose, what is her game?

Does she really exist far beneath the sea

Is she lithe and agile, bound to be free

Does she swim with sea creatures down in the deep

And explore their mysteries, and secrets keep?

Does she guard the rocks, the coral reef

Warn mariners of danger, trouble and grief

Caretaker of fishes, seahorses and fans

Does she protect them all from destruction of man?

Does she wail and sing far away from shore

For all that is gone and will be no more

Does she cry for help in safekeeping her home

And pray for deliverence to be left alone?
