This morning I called and made an appointment with an orthopedic
surgeon. I have a ganglion on the top of my right wrist. Had
it since my senior year of high school, about 10 years now. I
can remember exactly how I got it. I was on the yearbook staff
and for some reason the advisor wanted to take on a few token
freshmen. One kid, Kevin, was your typical hyper freshman. He
was so excited at completeing his first layout for a club page
that, as I walked by, he grabbed my hand and yanked, twisted
and jerked all at the same time. My wrist was swollen for several
days after that and about a month later this bump appeared and
I've had it ever since.
Normally, it'll be sore and swell up for a few days and then
go down and I'll have no pain for several months.
But back around October it got very sore and swollen and I've
been in near constant pain since. Asprin won't touch the pain
and a brace helps for a bit until it starts to annoy me.
So I finally broke down and called the doctor. I haven't had
much problems with it this week, but ya never know. The earliest
they can see me... March 14. By then I won't be in pain and there
will only be a small bump like normal.
I'll ask about my shoulder while I'm there.

Someone emailed me wanting to know if we wear the gauzy costume
at dance lessons. Sorta. The intermediate students wear the crepe
light weight full skirts over a catsuit. I wear workout shorts,
mainly so the instructor can see my legs to make sure I have
the proper posture, etc. We all wear scarves around our hips,
not waist, hips. This is so the movement of the hips is plain
and easy to see. The hip scarf is optional for the actual dancing.
Belly dancing originated as a type of fertility dance by women
for women. Women would only dance for each other, not the men.
Girls started dancing very young to strenghten abdominal muscles.
Stronger muscles, less pain, quicker and easier childbirth.
I've always found belly dancing to be very exotic, feminine,
and graceful. I have the long willowy limbs to at least appear
graceful in the gauzy outfits and it is a wonderful excuse to
show off the ab muscles I've worked so hard to get.
I noticed last month that when relaxed, some of my ab muscles
are plainly 'cut.' The others were there, but only if I tightend
my belly and the light was just right.
