Mick Fanning wins Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, Vic, Australia.



Fanning a wildcard for the event, created history with his win over fellow Australian Danny Wills.

In perfect 5 foot conditions the 19 year old who is not even on the WCT circuit won at tight contest. The win serves notice to the WCT for 2002. Rated #1 on the WQS after also winning a 6-star WQS event he seems destined to join the WCT next year.

The 2001 World Snowboarding Championship has been scheduled for April 19-22. The event will be held at Whistler/Blackcomb, in Canada.

The worlds best male and female boarders will be there to compete in the slopestyle, superpipe and big air events.

Four-time snowboard world champion Terje Haakonsen says he will boycott the 2002 Winter Olympics, and he is receiving support from Jake Burton, one of Haakonsen's biggest sponsors and founder of Burton Snowboards.
