Not to make cancer patient suffer means first of all discouraging behaviours which are at risk (for example smoking), encouraging an early diagnosis and adopting from time to time the necessary therapeutic treatments in the current multidisciplinary approaches.
These treatments are not simple, they are instead very complex and necessitate a constant up-dating on the part of both doctors and paramedics, as well as an efficient health system.
Today oncologic surgery represents a great medical resource because it has improved surgical techniques and medical knowledge, bringing the state of the art ever higher levels.
The great battle that doctors, but above all patients are fighting against cancer, a disease of the industrialized world will also be a fight against indifference and ignorance, making us also sensitive to the sufferings caused by many other diseases in the world.
May God enlighten us !
This Journal has an humanistic section, because we think that knowledge has no frontiers.
This part is dedicated to the memory of Vittorio Trancanelli, from Petrignano a little village near Assisi, to his many children adopted, to his family.
He was an ardent Christian and a surgeon fond of all cultures, of all religions.
A free spirit who educated us.
